  • Will reading books by Rhonda Byrne, or merely possess them, be an invitation to demonic activity in one's person?

I noticed an individual who read a book by this writer and her behaviour changed for the worse, almost immediately after reading it. She declines to go to confession saying that she goes when she feels like and that's her personal matter with God.

  • Any dabbling in magic, occult, new age, etc. is an open invitation for demonic influence.

  • Either occult influence or just poisonous / pernicious ideas in the book.  Hard to say.  People underestimate the power of bad ideas.

  • Had to look this one up.

    From Wikipedia:
    Quote
In 2007 Byrne was featured in Time Magazine's list of 100 people who shape the world. She gained mainstream popularity and commercial success after appearing on The Oprah Winfrey Show.[3] Her philosophy is that believing will allow you to achieve your wishes and dreams.

The Secret sold more than 19 million copies in more than 40 languages by the spring of 2007,[4] as well as more than 2 million DVDs.[3] The Secret book and film have grossed $300 million.

Hmm... based on what I've found so far, you won't magically open portals to hell by reading her books, but you'd likely damage your intelligence in addition to wasting your precious God given time.

This lady's just another con-artist selling books.

Seems sort of New Age / New Thought

On this website it states that:

    Quote
New Thought is a mind-healing movement that originated in the 19th-century United States. It has no one creed, but its fundamental teaching is that spirit is more real and more powerful than matter and that the mind has the power to heal the body.

Major groups within the New Thought movement include the Unity Church, Church of Religious Science, and Divine Science.

Many, but all, New Thought groups are based in Christianity. New Thought is related to Christian Science both historically and philosophically, but Christian Science is more organized and doctrinal than the New Thought movement. In addition, New Thoughters do not reject modern medicine to the extent that Christian Scientists do.

I find your observations interesting, because about 10 years ago I noticed that the parents of kids who read the Harry Potter books had behavioral changes.

I had never in my life seen such consistent rancor and malice, simply for saying we don't allow these books.  (when asked)  It was like a switch flipped.  Luckily, I missed the Byrne weirdness.

Seems as if some books carry curses or demons with them.  St. Don Bosco warned against bad books sending kids to Hell (along with bad companions and bad habits)

Thanks for sharing your experience Elizabeth, especially about what St. John Bosco said.
