  •  :barf:Please pray for me.  I'm sick with URI, maybe bronchitis.  Thanks to ObamaCare, no more doctor, no raise to be able to afford one.  Off work and no pay for three days now.
    Thanks in advance.

St. Francis Xavier threw a Crucifix into the sea, at once calming the waves.  Upon reaching the shore, the Crucifix was returned to him by a crab with a curious cross pattern on its shell.

I hope you get well soon, Frances!
If anyone says that true and natural water is not necessary for baptism and thus twists into some metaphor the words of our Lord Jesus Christ" Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Spirit" (Jn 3:5) let him be anathema.

  • Have you looked online for some natural remedies?  The Mommypotamus site has some good ideas.

One thing I do know is not to drink cranberry "juice" from the store, it is loaded w/sugar which will make matters worse.

Hope it clears up soon, I've had them and they are miserable.

I think you may be registering "URI" as a urinary tract infection; hence your mention of cranberry juice. A URI, however, is an upper respiratory infection; i.e., a cold, tonsillitis, laryngitis, sinusitis—all those great old favorites. Being myself a full-bore alternative-medicine type, I can assure you that the only good cranberry supplements can do for such an infection is to spur fluid elimination. Of course, that's always a good thing when one is ill.

Bronchitis, like pneumonia and tracheitis, is actually a lower respiratory infection—but it's still a long way from urinary infection territory, so there's no point in quibbling, especially with someone, like our Frances, who is likely to be coughing, experiencing chest pain and congestion, and feeling generally rotten.

All together now: Please bless us and give us your guidance, O Obamanable one!

Dr. Claudel has the right diagnosis.  URI= Upper Respiratory Infection.  I am drinking full strength pomegranate juice, the real thing, very sour!  Also getting ingredients for my Irish grandma's remedy.  It's a better expectorant than anything OTC from the drug store.  If it works, I'll ask Fr. Pfeiffer if it can be sold as the official Resistance anti-Obama, anti-modernist remedy.  Made with Kentucky whiskey, it could fund the US seminary.  But I still feel lousy, so keep praying.  Thanks.

The remedy calls for Irish Whiskey, preferably Jamison's, but I'd make a sacrifice for the sake of the Faith.  I've thought that OL Mt. Carmel priory and seminary could produce their own, since they are in the heart of whiskey country.  It would give yet another meaning to "spiritual" priests.

  • Do you have a humidifier going, Frances? That sounds so nasty and cannot be comfortable. Prayers for a speedy recovery.

I was a medic in the army back before you were born (I think). But some things one doesn't forget—like the relative locations of the lungs and the urinary tract.

I've met people who won't drink Jameson's because the distiller's family is Protestant. That's a bit, uh, preconciliar, don't you think? I, on the other hand, being a broad-minded sort of swine when it comes to the water of life, won't drink it simply because it's blended.

Bushmill's, a fine old Catholic firm, makes a great single malt. So that is the way to go for the good Catholic toper with a refined palate—unless you can afford to pay more than fifty bucks a bottle to get one of the premium, limited-production boutique brands.
