We should all pray daily that, God Willing, purgatory be our destination.

What are the options?  I think it's likely that very few souls will see the Beatific Vision immediately because of man's fallen nature and the traps of this world that are disguised as good things.  Then, if not straight to Heaven, if we go to Purgatory we are guaranteed to see the Beatific Vision.

:pray: ----> Pray daily.
I want to avoid purgatory entirely - that is in my daily prayers. By praying and striving to avoid purgatory, I hope to avoid hell, but I would never pray that purgatory be my destination. Better to pray to be made worthy to get to the highest place in heaven immediately after death and strive to live that goal, then to pray to get to purgatory and live that goal, imo.

Yes. Set your standards high, and begin right away to pray and work that you, and all of us - for we should always desire for others what we desire for our own selves, in this way we fulfil the Lord's commandment - avoid or minimize purgatory by leading a holy life. One of the best ways imo is to make regular use of indulgences, and as this is the month of the Rosary, Rosary Indulgences are many.

Quote
Father Dorland says that in 1481 Our Lady appeared to Venerable Dominic, the Carthusian, who lived at Treves, and said to him: "Whenever one of the faithful who is in a state of grace says the Rosary while meditating on the mysteries of the life and passion of Jesus Christ, he obtains full and entire remission of all his sins."

Our Lady also said to Blessed Alan: "I want you to know that, although there are numerous indulgences already attached to the recitation of my Rosary, I shall add many more to every fifty Hail Marys (each group of five decades) for those who say them devoutly, on their knees----being, of course, free from mortal sin. And whosoever shall persevere in the devotion of the Holy Rosary, saying these prayers and meditations, shall be rewarded for it; I shall obtain for him full remission of the penalty and of the guilt of all his sins at the end of his life. Do not be unbelieving, as though this is impossible. It is easy for Me to do because I am the Mother of the King of Heaven, and He calls Me full of grace. And, being full of grace, I am able to dispense grace freely to My dear children.

Therefore, sincerely praying at least 5 and certainly 15 decades of the Rosary every day without fail (as Bishop Williamson has been urging all of us to do for a long time!) is a sure way not only to shorten our Purgatory but almost certainly to avoid it altogether.

We should all do so. Above all, God wants us to overcome our tendency to commit any sin, even the smallest sin, and attachment to sin. Mother Mary is pleased, as seen above, when we strive to accomplish this by means of the grace released by the Rosary.

That booklet makes me think I should pray only for those souls in purgatory, yet I feel that I should keep my prayer intentions varied for the time being as I am still in my infancy in the faith. There is more that I do not know that I do not know, than that which I know to look for and learn (hope that makes sense).
You can become a saint by praying just for the souls in purgatory if you do it enough. There are beautiful stories of saints who became saints by doing just that.

You might want to add the souls in purgatory to your Morning Offering. If you currently are not praying your Morning Offering, you can start right now. To be said asap every morning, even before getting out of bed. Here is an example:

"O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer Thee all of my prayers, works, joys and sufferings of this day, for (here is where we add all of our intentions for this day) .....
all the intentions of Thy Sacred Heart, in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world, in reparation for all my sins, for the good intentions and conversion of all my relatives and associates, and in particular for the conversion of our Holy Father the pope, for the conversion of (add all the names you want), for all of the poor holy suffering souls in purgatory, especially (add all the names you want), that Thou wouldst deliver me and (those I love) from a sudden and unprovided death, that Thou wouldst please provide for me the grace of final perseverance and a happy death when it comes my turn, for a good holy Roman Catholic priest to give me the sacrament of Extreme Unction, and all the last blessings of the Church before I die, while I am still conscious and of sound mind, so that I may receive them with the proper disposition so as to completely avoid purgatory and go immediately to heaven with Thee when I die. Amen."

You can add whatever other intentions you want and make this prayer a mile long if you want, i.e. you can add or substitute whatever suits you, for example, you can say: "for the grace of humility", "to grow in the faith", "for our president", etc.

The cool thing is that when you pray the above Morning Offering, every prayer, good work etc., during that day will automatically include all of the intentions you mentioned above - in addition to whatever other intentions you might have at the time. It's too easy to not do.

By the same token, look at all the graces and favor lost by not praying your Morning Offering.

I just woke up and am having my coffee, I have other things to say but I must say this thing.
If I am confessing all and well, and performing my given penance, how is it that I can end up in purgatory anyway?

I would say first, we don't know if we will make it to purgatory, or if we do, for how long. Same as we do not know if we made sufficient recompense or satisfaction to God through penances and etc. during our life for the past sins committed against Him, Who is Holy Purity Himself. We will need purgatory to cleanse us of all our faults and vestiges of sin from our whole life which remain on our souls after death. There simply is no other means to attain our purification after death except through the pains and sufferings purgatory, and only God knows what it will take to make us pure enough for heaven.

We do have the means in this world to avoid purgatory, but we won't know if we avoided it until we die. But we do know that nearly everyone must pass through purgatory before they can get into heaven.
