  • The Church would not forbid belief in reincarnation if Scripture approvingly hinted at belief in it if or of Jesus, the disciples, and early Christians accepted it.

BTW, the Scriptures do not "hint" at things we have to believe. We were not given Ten Hints.

  • I never said NO ONE believed in it. Jesus and the disciples did not believe in it though!

  • The Church never believes in error - She is the "Pillar of Truth". She condemns errors as they come up.

At the moment of death we all under go the Particular Judgment where our fate is set for all eternity in either Heaven (with a likely stopover in Purgatory) or Hell for all eternity.

There is no 2nd chance. Some Scriptural Passages:

Eccdlesiasticus 1:13 and 11:28 "in the day of death" he shall be blessed, rewarded.

Luke 23:43 "this day thou shalt be with me in Paradise"

2 Cor. 5:8 - Soul " absent from the body" but "present with the Lord"

Hebrews 9:27 "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, and after this the Judgment".

More references can be found in the Ch. XVII on Purgatory page 170 in the 2nd book listed on Apologetics at:

    Hope this helps.

Exactly. Jesus and the disciples could not have believed anything that was later condemned by the Church.

  • John 21:20-23 Does not indicate reincarnation!

Christ asked Peter "suppose I want  (John) to stay till I come".

It then says that some therefore wrongly thought John would not die.

It also says that Christ did not say John would not die. Others just misunderstood Him. Christ just said "suppose".

All this speculation about the meaning (private interpretation) of Holy Scripture reminds me of:

2Peter 1:20 and 2Peter 3:16 Which warn us that "private interpretation" of Scripture "is forbidden" and "leads to destruction".

The Catholic Church has been given the Authority to tell us the True meaning of various passages in Holy Scripture that are "hard to understand".

There is no such thing as reincarnation. Your eternal fate is determined by you during this life - the only one you will have.

Time to start "crammen for the finals"!  :-)

    Hope this helps.

    God Bless,

    Bruno

  • Reincarnation is a vain hope of worldly-minded (and/or worldly) people who wish to awaken after death to seem themselves on earth for another go-round.

After all, though a valley of tears, life on earth isn't so bad. Let's face it -- how many of us are anxious to die?  And even for those of us who are enduring great suffering -- how do your sufferings compare with Hell? No offense, but they're nothing compared to life in Hell.

There's a saying, "The devil you know is better than the devil you don't."
Earth has its ups and downs, but at least we are "in our element" down here -- we can deal with it. We can handle it, more or less.
But aspects of the next life (including the strictness of God's judgment, for example) should rightfully terrify us. Many saints were afraid of God's judgment.

And even if we're suffering, we should prefer to keep living here, because at least here we can grow in grace, help save souls, and merit for heaven. And 10 minutes as a cancer patient here is worth 10 years submerged in unspeakable fire in Purgatory -- not counting the fact that the cancer patient can actually grow in holiness and gain merit!

As we get older, the world is taken from us a piece at a time (beauty, health, strength, mobility, sight, hearing, friends, independence, way of life, house, familiar routines, the world we knew, etc.), to prepare us for death -- a mercy of God, as it were.

But most young people especially want to stick around for some time.

"Everybody wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to go now."

  • Reincarnation is a ridiculous doctrine for many reasons.

Why would the Church condemn the teaching if it were true? The Church has countless miracles proving her authority.

And for those who believe in a non-Christian, cosmic god who wills that we be re-incarnated several times, it is equally ridiculous. After all, what kind of twisted god would do that? You live your life good and/or bad, die, and awaken with NO RED PEN ON YOUR EXAM PAPER SHOWING YOU WHAT YOU GOT WRONG, OR HOW YOU CAN IMPROVE NEXT TIME. You have no memory of your past life, so how can this twisted "god" expect you to improve and get it right the next time?

So if Josef Stalin and myself were to die, (assuming neither of us were perfect enough for heaven), we would BOTH start over with pretty much equal chances! What kind of game is that?

And even if you wanted to be "good" during your next life, how would you go about it, without a Church to teach you the proper morality?

At least the Catholic Church teaches us what God wants of us. Your cosmic god isn't so good and kind.

  • The fact that reincarnation is false and the proofs and the logic of it is really not that difficult to understand.

The problem: "There are none so blind as those who will not see."

Even the Teacher of all teachers, the Miracle Worker of all miracle workers could not convence "those who will not see" and they crucified Him.

Pray for the Gift of Faith.

  • never mind one's individual opinions - the early christians were all catholics - just type in CHristianity and Reincarnation in your search box and then go to Catholic Encyclopaedia - now a similiar situation confronts us and is allowed which was not accepted in the past and like reimcarnation will hopefully be condemned - belief in reincarnatiom imho became obsolete as the only option or way when after the resurrection Jesus was accepted as the better or only way - btw what confronts us now is Evolution as the way since there is no way via either reincarnation or resurrection according to Evolutionists - twinc
