Recommendation for Latin Mass Video?

  • Hello all,

My eldest daughter is reaching a point where she wants to be able to follow along with the Mass in a missal, but she's not proficient enough in Latin to be able to find her place.  I can't help her because I'm usually holding her 1-year-old sister.

I thought the best thing to do is to get a video of a Tridentine Mass and follow along in the missal with her; this way we can talk, she can ask questions, and I can answer them without being disruptive to anyone.

There are a bewildering array of Mass videos, many of which appear to be specific High Feast masses.  I'm looking for either a simple low Mass or a straightforward high Mass in order to limit confusion (particularly because we usually attend low Mass).  Does anyone have a particular suggestion for a Mass video?

    Thanks in Advance,

    Lisa

  •  I think there are books out there that teach about identifying the parts of the mass. Try Angelus Press maybe?

Anyhow, about the mass... I don't know, but I think you might be able to find a low mass here... (Along with some other interesting things!)

A mass of traditional Catholic media, free for download.

  • This is a pretty good one with which I think several of us here are familiar: .  :incense:

  • Thank you Dulcamara and Kephapaulos,

I do have dozens of different books of varying worth that expain the Mass; now I'm trying to help my daughter put what she's learned from those books into action.  I would do it during Mass, but my one year old is too squirmy right now.

It is great to know that there are actually downloadable Masses!  Have you tried burning any of them to a videodisc or DVD to play on the TV?  (I have a strict no computer rule for my kids...I guess I know firsthand what an addiction it can be!  We usually don't watch videos either, but I think this would be a good exception.)

  • Since they're in wmv (windows movie) format, normally playable on your computer's media player, you'll probably need to convert them to another format before you can play them on your dvd player, unless of course it plays windows media player format.

But be careful. Some of the software to convert files to dvd format are illegal dvd "ripping" software, which is illegal in some countries/states! (One reason I prefer vcd formats.)
