  • Out of charity, would someone kindly enlighten me as to Church law (Traditional - NOT novus ordo) regarding the reception of the Sacraments during the Holy Triduum  I understand that Holy Mass is not offered during the Triduum, but I keep getting conflicting answers to receiving the other Sacraments - especially Confession/Penance during the Holy Triduum.  Some have instructed that NO Sacraments are to be offered and yet others say only Holy Mass may not be offered.  Any advice/instruction would be most kindly appreciated.

  • My understanding is , no baptisms, marriages, funerals EXCEPT in the case of a newborn in distress and Extreme Unction with Communion in the case of the dying.

  • My understanding is that, except in cases of danger of death, the Sacraments are not celebrated from the Mass of Holy Thursday to the Easter Vigil Mass on Holy Saturday, except Confession and Extreme Unction.  The faithful can also receive the Eucharist during the Mass of the Presanctified on Good Friday, although this is not a "Mass," properly speaking.

  • Good Friday traditionally has been the one day of the year when ONLY THE PRIEST received Communion.
People receiving only started in 1956 or 1958.

Also newborns in danger of death can be Baptised

Interesting, I did not know that.  I suppose that was part of Pius XII's Holy Week changes.
