  • This is certainly a conference not to be missed.

The IHS Press Group cordially invites you to the first conference in the Rebuilding Christendom™ series. This packed, three-day event is an inaugural gathering of Catholics and others of good will in the United States consecrated exclusively to genuine Catholic Social Doctrine. Intended to be a fearless proclamation of “the politics of Jesus Christ,” Rebuilding Christendom I will feature some of today’s leading independent scholars, veteran writers, and students of social Catholicism, addressing the history, theory, and practical application to contemporary society of Catholic political, economic, financial, and social principle

    Conference Aims

    GOALS NUMBER…

1  To unite all Catholics and other men of good will around the Church’s teaching in the temporal order regarding politics and economics.

2  To demonstrate that lay Catholics who disagree on purely theological/canonical matters can nevertheless unite productively in terms of presenting a united, Catholic front in pushing the Church’s teaching on politics and economics into the public eye, and in putting it into practice.

3  To show that the false left vs. right alternative we’ve been saddled with over the last two centuries is a charade that simply distracts focus from the doctrinal and practical solutions offered by the Church’s social teaching to contemporary problems in the political and temporal arenas.

4  To expound fearlessly on the Church’s doctrine of property ownership as an alternative to capitalism and socialism.

5  To recall to mind the obligation of the temporal political community to submit to the natural moral law regardless of the a-confessional nature of the modern state.

    AND THE QUESTIONS:

WHAT are the genuine principles of civiliazation?

What is Catholic doctrine on politics, economics, and local, national and international society?

HOW does this apply — and how can it be applied — today?

    …THEN THE ANSWERS:

    Defend the Genuine “Common Good:
Catholic Truth has political and social claims.

    Replace the False Dialectic:
It’s about “right vs. wrong” not “right vs. left.”

    Build a Coalition:
We differ on “What’s wrong with the Church,” but we agree on  what’s wrong with the World.”

    Restore Personal Economic Liberty:
Widely diffused, privately owned, productive property is the alternative to the Servile State.

    Define and Maintain Limits:
Political authority must serve man’s Last End, not merely tyrannize over him.

  • It's possible to sponsor somebody if unable to attend the conference.  I certainly recommend this conference. I might travel over for it.

  • Thank you very much for alerting us to this. The schedule looks highly interesting.

    In Lodging it says this:

"Discounted rooms are available at $71.00 per night (double occupancy)."

So for two people it would be $35.50 each - quite affordable for me. Is there anyone here who might be interested in sharing a room?

  • They do have DVDs you can pre order, which is nice. But they're $90, which is not so nice.

Perhaps people could email them conference@ihspress.com and offer some feeback.I hope they will revise this and keep costs to a minimum.

It seems rather expensive. I have fallen out with our English friends but they put on an excellent conference in London. A cup of tea was 30p.

We had E.Michael Jones over in Dublin a few years ago and cost of venue was about 50 euro. We did a collection for him also and good reading material sold.

These conferences should hopefully inspire others to organise in their own area.

  • Fixing the body does not necessarily heal the soul.

While I have absolutely zero problem with the enunciated goals, if such labors are not carried out by men of intense interior life, truly good fruit will remain elusive, if not non-existent.  Moreover, said laborers must have both ample opportunity and real power to effect change; right now, the Money Master Mafia has filled all positions of power and influence with their henchmen.

I am all for learning the truth with respect to all of the topics mentioned, but it is my humble opinion that restoring Christendom begins with restoring the Church, and said restoration is so far beyond our individual and even collective power as to be impossible at this time.  I firmly believe the world will be renewed and that men will play their role, but I humbly submit that God alone can effect the necessary change, which change must begin in the minds and hearts of individual men.  That is how Christendom came to be what it was; that is how it will become glorious once again.

I apologize if this sounds like an attempt to rain on the parade.  I do not mean it to be or to be seen as such.  I mean no disrespect to those who disagree with the idea I have presented.  It is just that nothing will truly change the world for the better until Holy Church herself is resurrected, so to speak.  History teaches us that when the temple is healthy, if you will, society naturally follows suit; when disorder enters into the temple, society suffers.  The history within the OT leaves no doubt that this is so.  Heal Holy Church, all else will follow.

Although wrong ideas certainly play a notable role in the present trouble, very few modern men are able to see the truth even when it is presented to them in the clearest possible terms and in the kindest possible manner.  Why?  Their hearts are full of pride and overrun by disordered affections.  God will set this straight, perhaps even very soon.  I would argue He has already begun to do so.  Until His designs on this score are achieved, and they will be, very few men will be able to profit from the truth about how to rightly order a society.  Put another way: can men whose interior is disordered be expected to rightly order the things around them?

That said, may those who attend the conference profit immensely from it.  If you disagree with what I have said, please ignore me and go about your business in the way that you believe to be in accordance with God's will and is the best for you at this time.
"Fear God, and keep His commandments: for this is all man."

  • GV's criticism notwithstanding, is anybody else interested in this? Sungenis is talking two or three times, so you know this isn't some half-hearted neo-con event.

  • Graham- if you end up going, please let us know what you thought!

Also, if you need a hotel room locally, and are going solo. You may want to research betterbidding.com. It will take an hours worth of research to become acquainted with what to do, but I've gotten quite a number of hotels for short trips for the wife and I at unbelievable rates. PM if you have any questions.
