Why do people play along with this silliness?

As for me, precisely because of its silliness. Even if he's a fabrication, I find the warmth and simplicity of herbert preferable to the icy, pharisaical, excessively earnest aridity of many "trads" here, even though they might sometimes speak the truth. I suppose this is related to the fact that I view this board as a diversion rather than a source of truth. I go to other, more qualified sources when I want the truth, e.g., St. Alphonsus, who though speaking the unvarnished truth, never convey any sense of aridity. And as I just said in another thread, the predominant iciness and sanctimony of "trads" almost makes the wretched sentimentality and falsity of the NewChurch attractive. If many of the "trads" I've encountered are to be trusted, to be a Christian is to be without joy or any apparent indication of charity.

No Trad here stands for no joy or charity (except for Hietanen, but he was banned). What exactly gives you the idea that people here believe there should be no joy or charity? I'm sorry, but that is absurd. And for those who thumbed-down my previous post, when I said herbert was a troll I didn't mean that he meant to intentionally harm this forum. "Troll" as in he doesn't speak about religion much. Troll might not even be the word.
