  • Editor: fearing that people wont' respect Nostra Aetate enough, Jєωιѕн Rabbi is concerned that Christians will be Christians at Pope Benedict's Assisi Event.

ROME, August 5, 2011 – The controversy has gone mostly unnoticed, but has brought into grave doubt the presence of the Jєωs at the "Day of reflection, dialogue, and prayer for peace and justice in the world" convened by Benedict XVI for next October 27 in Assisi.

The spark was an article by Cardinal Kurt Koch, president of the pontifical council for Christian unity, in "L'Osservatore Romano" on July 7, illustrating the meaning of the Day.

In the final part of his article, Cardinal Koch called the cross of Jesus "the permanent and universal Yom Kippur," and identified in it "the decisive way that Jєωs and Christians above all [...] should accept in a profound interior reconciliation."

  • I think both traditional Catholics and observant Jєωs can agree that His Emminence's statement was an idiotic one.
Stir up within Thy Church, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the Spirit with which blessed Josaphat, Thy Martyr and Bishop, was filled, when he laid down his life for his sheep: so that, through his intercession, we too may be moved and strengthen by the same Spir

I"m skeptical of ++Koch, he was an Old Liberal in his old Diocese but I've heard he's been changing his tune.

Not sure if calling the Passion a Yom Kippur would be wrong in itself.

  • I suppose it wouldn't, but it seems an odd choice, especially when he could always talk about Good Friday.
