Title: Quiz Time: Who was the number one abortion-infanticide nation in ancient
Post by: sedetrad on March 02, 2012, 11:48:04 AM
I'll give some hints:

1.) It was utterly destroyed. The earth was salted and all its people were killed or sold into slavery.

2.) Carthago delenda est!

Solange Hertz discusses this little known fact in one of her books. I can't remember which one. It has been many years.

I always ponder this quote "Carthago delenda est" when I think of the divine punishment and justice given to a nation that kills its young.

You gave away the answer with "Carthago".

Somewhat topical, I typed "Carthage abortion" into Google and look what came up:

Carthage Abortion Clinic - Professional & Friendly Abortion Services in Carthage, Mississippi (http://www.mississippiabortionclinic.com/Carthage-abortion-clinic.php)

If that's not foreboding, then I don't know what is.

That was too easy as the answer was almost given in the question.

However.

Do you have anything of substance to back up such a claim?

Just curious.

And  if I'm not wrong, the ancient Spartans killed their fair share infants as well.

Solange Hertz discussed it in one her books and had footnotes. Alas, I lost my copies of her books years ago. I wish they would put out digital to buy versions. I believe the discussion was how Cathage was into Moloch worship via abortion and infanticide as well as promoting its practice amongst its people. The god worshiped wasn't Moloch, but one o the similar demon gods.

Glad that the Romans destroyed that city in which it was never rebuilt to
this day.

The Carthaginians were indeed sacrificing to Moloch, even though Moloch was 'originally' an Ammonite god. There is enough evidence that the Carthaginians fully intended their sacrifices for Moloch.

It need not be a different, but similar god in this case.

It's interesting that the Carthaginian nobles believed their downfall was due to their practice of only sacrificng low-born children to Moloch. When they were about to be destroyed, they initiated a sacrifice of the 200 highest born noble children to satiate Moloch.

In New York City, the Godless capital of the US arguably, the abortion rate is nearly double the rate of the rest of the country: half of pregnancies are terminated.

NYC just seems a modern Babylon, or Carthage to me, both ancient cities reputed for their material wealth and Godlessnes (and child sacrifice)
It is no accident these go hand in hand, but no one notices because they don't believe in real evil, much less the evil one anymore.

And NYC is full of hubris and arrogance. They believe that they are untouchable, even after 911.

With all their blasphemies I believe someday they will reap what they sow and 911 will be like child's play compared to what's coming for them.

Interesting you say this. I once read where NYC will be wiped out one day. Similar to the prophecy that California will "split in hlaf".

Thanks for the clarification. I agree that judgment will be swift and fierce.

Does anyone know how common infanticide was in ancient Rome and Greece?

I am only aware of the practices of the pederast Spartans.

They had an institutionalized infanticide. Babies deemed to have physical imperfections were left on a hill to die in the elements and be picked at like carrion.

These are the same people whose contemporary historians complained that pederasty was so common and preferred by their men at one point (later in Sparta's history, not coincidentally near their end!) That it was impacting their population growth(!).

Even the godless Athenians acknowledged the Spartan proclivity and composed invectives towards the Spartans, which the Spartan statesmen only claimed in retort the vice was not as common as the Athenians suggested, never denying that it was common among their 'men'

Again, these repeatedly tend to go hand in hand in history: rampant ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖity, infanticide, materialism.
