Question on breast implants

  • If a woman got breast implants, but later on she converts to the Catholic Faith, if she could easily get them removed, either because she has the money or she could get it done for free, should she remove them, or should she leave them on?

I know a novus ordo mother who got implants for free; what she was going to get initially was just a tummy tuck but then for some reason she also got implants.

But suppose she were to convert to real Catholicism - what should she do? I think it is relatively easy for her to get them removed because her brother-in-law is a plastic surgeon and the one who did that operation on her for free.

  • She should remove the fake breasts as soon as possible.

Her body is a temple of the Holy Ghost and breast implants just seem incompatible with the idea of honoring her body with modesty and decorum.

Inciting lust is often the reason why a woman would do such a thing to her body.
If anyone says that true and natural water is not necessary for baptism and thus twists into some metaphor the words of our Lord Jesus Christ" Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Spirit" (Jn 3:5) let him be anathema.

  • I don't think she would be under a strict obligation to have them removed, as those with tattoos and other mutilations are not required to do so using extraorindary means. It requires surgery and isn't a simple matter. With something noticeable, it would be best to dress in such a way that does not accentuate the issue.

I think it would be advisable to get them removed for health reasons but I don't know the risks associated with removal either.

  • There's not a really a need to have them removed. It wasn't an illicit act and I don't know why she had them done.

For instance, I know someone who had a double mastectomy. She had them reconstructed with implants because she was very uncomfortable with the scars, etc.

Yes, it's good to offer suffering up, but it might not really be a sin.
    "But 'tis strange:
And oftentimes, to win us to our harm,
The instruments of darkness tell us truths,
Win us with honest trifles, to betray's
In deepest consequence.." Banquo, from Shakespeare's Macbeth

I want to retract this comment, as when I wrote it, I only had in my mind women that do this out of vanity and sinful sensuality.

I understand that there may be other clinical reasons for breast implants.

To both of you: her reasons were 100% VAIN as she didn't have any medical condition whatsoever.

She had small breasts before and she used to wear more modest shirts/blouses, but she got implants at least double or triple her natural size, they're not huge, but they're considerable, and NOW she wears tight shirts, very low cut, and she is parading and exposing them around.

If that's not vanity and pure lust, I don't know what is.

And further, i myself told her that it was a mortal sin what she did, because now she is showing them around and before she wouldn't dress like that, and what did she tell me? That the reason she got implants was "between me and my husband".

    PURE LUST.

  • Apart from cost, general anesthesia is not without risk.
