  • For all those who believe in BOD and BOB: Should feeneyites like Nadie be received communion for believing in the absolute necessity of water baptism? Are they heretics?

  • In my opinion they would be heretics for denying a teaching of the Church, formal or informal I do not know.

    I have a question:

    BOD in reverse:

I watched one of those Christmas movies last night.  To make it short:  girl meets boy, Catholic parents plan for the Roman Catholic priest to come speak to the couple.  Priest asks the young man, what religion are you?  Jєωιѕн, he says.

The girl states, but he is going to convert, (lying).

Priest wants to baptise the young man in a few days, along with the new baby born to a sister of the girl.

This Jєωιѕн guy tells the girl when they are alone, "no way, I am not getting baptised, next week, along with the biby".

She says, just do it, for the sake of my parents, it doesn't mean much anyway, just a cermony.  (sigh!)

    Then I fell asleep.

My question is, if this Jєωιѕн guy did go along with the baptism, although against his desire for it.  Is he baptised, would original sin be washed away?
    Please pray for my soul.

Myrna- his baptism wouldn't be valid. People can reject the graces given to them from the sacraments. .

Same as if someone dying was a baptized Catholic, yet interiorly hated God, and was given the Last Rites, they could reject the graces, and if in a state of mortal sin, would still be dammed.

  • I see a few problems:

    1.  I am not sure that BOD/BOB is de fide.  If yes, then,

    2.  I believe for a person to be considered a formal heretic, the Church has to notify the person and give them the chance to amend their belief.  If true, then how would this be accomplished without a Church hierarchy?

    3.   If 2 can be accomplished, then whatever rules apply should be implemented.

  • Yes, this is the way I felt, the baptism would be invalid if the person did not desire it.  It also gives weight on the side of those who believe in BOB/BOD since the emphasis is placed on the intention/desire either for or not for the actual pouring of water, but instead the intention of the receiver.

It works both ways, not just one way, don't you agree?
