Question about requesting Masses

  • Is what's on the following link a good thing? It appears to me to be, but I'm not sure.

    http://national-coalition.org/w/operation-mission-stipends/?utm_source=Susie%27s+edition+-+Continue+his+35-year+legacy+of+no-compromise+action+-+12%2F16%2F15&utm_campaign=in+meoriam+Dick+Lloyd+Dec+28%2C+2015&utm_medium=email

It seems to me that if there are Traditional priests who need money it would be a good thing to ask them for Masses, rather than, for example, an SSPX priest. I have a hard time denying financial support to the chapel where I receive the sacraments (SSPX) since it seems to me that justice requires at least a token contribution. At the same time, I know that their 'waiting list' for Masses is very long, and of course, they spend money on frivolous (to say the least) things (i.e. that PR company). Hence my little dilemma.
What return shall I make to the Lord for all the things that He hath given unto me?

  • No.  It is not a good thing.  It will simply help fund and perpetuate the Conciliar sect.  Perhaps the concept is a good thing, but this organization is not.

I don't understand. Is there reason to doubt what they say here:

    Quote
NCCL sends to the Priests 100% of the stipends collected. In turn, they offer the Holy Sacrifice according to one of the traditional Catholic Liturgies (holy Mass in the Ethiopian/Ge’ez, Constantinopolitan, or Roman rites) “for the intentions of the giver” – e.g. your loved ones, living and deceased.

Is it their use of the plural in 'Roman rites' that makes them suspicious? That would make sense. I just noticed that now.

    That makes sense. Thank you!

  • It's fine to make a "token" contribution to your SSPX Mass center.

But unless you truly believe your SSPX chapel's existence is in jeopardy, it might be just as good to give your PRIEST a donation directly. Then he gets to keep it, and none of it goes "upstream" to Bishop Fellay.

Don't forget that the SSPX chapel is NOT your local parish, and you are under no obligation to give generously to them. The commandment is to "contribute to the support of the Church" but the SSPX is not the Church; only one branch of it.

If you want to give a traditional tithe (10% of your income), you should find a worthier cause to give most of it.

If you support any Catholic priest or organization you are fulfilling your obligation.

In the old days, you could just put your weekly donation in the collection basket, and the Church would take care of allocating it where it was needed.

Today, though, Trads need to be careful who they support, especially who they support with guns blazing (large donations). Careless donations are why so many good Trad priests lack funds to do more good work, while various bad Traditional organizations (even de-facto cults) have tons of money.

The Trad faithful need to be a bit more discerning about who they support. We need to cast our dollar "votes" on solid, objective PRINCIPLES -- who is objectively doing good work for the Catholic Church and for souls, and who is doing a little bit of good, but causing a huge hindrance and stumbling block for others?

  • Thanks, Matthew. Just to be clear, Mass stipends do not fulfill the precept to support the Church, right? I never thought they did, I just want to be sure I understand you. And are you saying that I can fulfill the precept to support the Church by giving directly to a priest instead of putting an envelope into the collection basket? Would I ask him for a receipt then too?
