  • If this has already been discussed (I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case), please forgive me.

How do we argue in the secular political world that gαy "marriage" should not be allowed? It's hard to argue about preserving traditional marriage when divorce and promiscuity are rampant. Saying that children reared by ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖ partners turn out worse is equally difficult to argue when you look at all the abused and neglected children out there.

I've heard the argument (including from some Catholics) that the government should get out of the marriage business altogether so that no one is "discriminated" against. The problem I have with that is that actual marriages would suffer, as that would mean that widow(er)s would lose property to the estate tax (the death tax); insurance plan coverage of spouses would have to change; power of attorney rights would need to be amended; etc. Not to mention that this would send a signal that the government does not want to preserve and honor actual marriage.

Anyway, just wanted to hear what y'all have to say.

  • Civil marriage exists to provide for spouses and any possible children.

If breadwinner dies, easier for disposal of assets to survivors.

This also helps to avoid leaving a homemaker and her children in the lurch.

For tax purposes, allows for parents' credit which is helpful if wife raises kids at home and husband works.

State/fed does not want to be wards of many children.

Children are a natural possibility of a marriage between man and woman.

If husband and wife cannot produce children, it is an exception and not a condition of marriage.

ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖs do not have ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖ reproductive organs.

    They have heterosɛҳuąƖ reproductive organs.

Tell them this and watch the conniptions.
