  • I'm going to mass tonight with my mother at a SSPX chapel near my house, and neither of us are sure about what to wear. Can I get some help with what we should wear please?

  • All acceptable: shirt and tie, a nice polo and khaki pants, or a suit. Brown or black shoes.

We don't usually do suits for weekday mass, but it won't hurt anything if you do and you won't be out of place.

  • Thank you!

Also, what should women wear? My mother's not sure.

  • Welcome, Tyler.

The dress code for males is a dress shirt and a tie with khaki pants and dress shoes. Suits will also work.

For women: long sleeves, long skirt, and a head covering (chapel veil is best).

    Hope this helps.

    God Bless.
Please ignore ALL of my posts. I was naive during my time posting on this forum and didn’t know any better. I retract and deeply regret any and all uncharitable or erroneous statements I ever made here.

  • Agree with Mabel.

For ladies a casual, modest skirt or dress that is at least knee length, not form fitting, and a head covering.  Hose not required if the skirt is long.  No backless sandals.

And I would add to that a modest neckline on the blouse or dress. :)

Is this your first traditional Latin Mass, Tyler?

  • This is my first. My parish is run by Dominicans. I've been wanting to go to a Latin mass for a while, buy hadn't gotten around to it until now.

    Anyway, thanks everyone!

What happy news! Soak it all in, it'll be beautiful. :)

  • Dress code for guys is pretty simple. That's been covered.

For women it can get complicated because the fashions tend to immodesty. If the neckline is kinda low she can compensate by wearing a scarf. I hear lots of ladies complaining about how almost all the blouses nowadays have plunging necklines to some extent and this is how they deal with it.

I'd highly recommend going to a High Mass on Sunday.

    Enjoy!

  • I just got back from mass and it was a beautiful mass. It was definitely different from what I'm used to, but I really liked it. I have a feeling I'll be back.

Actually, anything modest with sleeves is OK.

Don't get the impression that every female at an SSPX chapel wears long sleeves even in the summer. It's simply not the case. In fact, I'd say it's quite rare.

Sure, there's the "ideal", but it's hard enough for those new to Tradition to find something modest.
