We also just ordered potassium iodide tablets. It's the kind of thing you want gathering cobwebs on the shelf. It's cheap and better to have on hand and never need. Wait for an emergency and it'll be sold out and too late.

I found this neat little free download that seems to have great info.

I am no expert so I can't give an expert analysis. It could have a lot of errors. What I've read so far seems to make sense to me.

Good point, Wallflower.  the P.I. only works for a limited time for the iodine 31 (or whatever it is) but not the Plutonium, Cesium, Strontium and other hellish fallout.

That's why kelp is good as a daily thyroid health agent.

  • True. It's a tablet a day for only 10 days and not unless directed to by authorities. In an emergency the kelp will not do what the tablets do but it's good in the meantime.

How common or threatening are the other fallouts you mention? There are more kinds?  :stare:

  • The thyroid is the only thing that iodine protects though. That's the thing about it. It won't prevent other cancers from ensuing. (That's what my understanding of it is, though.)

The Fukushima reactors which are melting down, four of them also have 30 ears of spent fuel rods in the infernos.

The reactor No. Three had what is called MOX fuel.  This is the one which exploded on 3/11.  I have watched the live feeds for hundreds of hours, comparing them to the surviving films of Chernobyl.  The radioactivity is visible on film, as is the enormous heat distortion.

I should go find some links...I am on total overload.  They should have evacuated millions of Japanese immediately.  At first the winds were carrying most of the radiation to the US, and various parts of the Northern Hemisphere.  Now the season of inland wind and rain is upon Japan.

The "hot particles" hit our West Coast in April (Plutonium, named for Hell)

Cesium and Strontium-90 and others have been detected.

Cera was discussing the Petkau Effect-which is basically the random damage to humans by degrees.  Day by day the radiation ads up in the tissue, blood and bones of people, mostly the unborn and children.   At least this is my understanding.
