  • O.K. Now, I am listening to President Carter talk about Palestine. Guess what? He speaks pretty much the truth. They are having walls built, now 40Ft high to keep them fenced in.
President Carter has a new book I think called Palestine, not Arpartheid (sp?) Again, I was led to believe he was the enemy. Maybe on some things but I think the real enemy is right wing talk radio.

He gave the Panama Canal to China.  I don't trust him either.

What? Huh? Are you getting Hong Kong being given back to China mixed up with the Panama Canal being given to Panama?

Nope.  The Panama canal didn't spend one day in the possession of Panama, I don't think.  It was immediately let (rented) to a Chinese company.  And it was known beforehand that that is what was going to happen.

The Panama Canal is operated by the Panama Canal Authority (ACP)  an entity of the Panamanian governement.

    http://www.pancanal.com/eng/general/acp-overview.html

Panamanians voted on Oct. 22 in a national referendum and approved a plan to double the size of the Panama Canal. Almost 80 percent of voters supported the plan, siding with their government.

  • Thank you for clarifying what you meant.

Without any indications that these ports are not professionally managed though, the point is not clear...  As any private enterprise, they have a financial incentive to manage their responsabilities to the upmost standards.

  • I just see that the canal of Panama is a huge hub for trade, currently saturated, and incapable of accomodating the new super-tankers.  This will be fixed with the enlargement recently voted.

Most of the traffic going through is mostly Asian trade inbound eastern to US ports. Effeciancy is both beneficial to Asia and the US, perhaps even more to Asia.

I don't share you ultra-conservative born fear of communism to the extent that it teints your judgement on just about everything.

I don't have much else to add on this subject.

  • Both on trade and security issues relating to China, Canada and the U.S. interests runs parralelle.

I can't prevent you from worrying, and you can't drag me in your nightmare.  We really don't have much to talk about.
