Pre-VCII Catholic Video Thread

  • I thought it would be neat if I could start a thread where everyone could post links to Catholic related video footage from the Pre-VCII era. I'd like to get enough footage to recreate, if only in a small way, a sense of the ethos of the time and what it felt like to be Catholic before the auto-demolition.

I'll start with this video. A May Procession from 1958....

  • A real Treasure.

Reminds me of the many Mary's Day Procession at St. Lawrence Martyr in
Redondo Beach, Ca., where I was a pupil from 1956 to 1962.
With regrets, I have no surviving film footage.
It was an expensive to do filming with a 8mm movie camera. The
film last 2 minutes per roll, and from the purchase of the film, to the
developing could cost up to $5.00. A lot of money in those days.
It is now so easy with video, and that technology did not come until
decades later. From the large VHS camera to the digital.

  • This is a video with pictures from a Byzantine Rite Catholic conference in Germany.  Don't read the messages at the end.  It will just run a beautiful experience for most here.  The music is amazing.

  • I just noticed this thread was specifically for pre-VC II videos, not just traditional liturgy videos.  Sorry.

Even if you don't get enough footage to fulfill your aim, this could be interesting.

BTW, there was no auto-demolition. That was Montini propoganda.

There was a conscious effort to demolish, and the enemies with the help of fellow travellers did unquantifiable damage.

She lives though! Not as obvious in her glory at present, but perhaps again in the future.

  • There are plenty of other movie scenes, made pre-1964/5 revolution of V2. I don't know if they "count" for this thread.

  • The British Pathe website archive also has many old videos of Masses, etc. There are too many to post. Just go to britishpathe.com and enter Catholic in the search bar to see. Here is one example of a Mass said at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, 1941. Just look down to see the many other videos.
