  • Do prayers for  the salavtion of people who have already died "work?" I'm not talking about people who have died with the sign of the faith and are in purgatory, but people who weren't Catholic or even Christian.  I heard that since God is not bound by time,  so He can utilize those prayers for their beneft. What the Church said about this?

  • Unless we have a special revelation then we do not know what is the status of someone who has died. If they are in Hell it is a waste of time to pray for them. However since we don't know the status of individual people then it would be a corporal work of mercy to pray for the repose of their souls.
