Prayers for new pregnancy

  • Greetings!

My wife and I just discovered that we are expecting our fourth child (given that we have twins, and have a higher chance of having them in our future, this may be fourth and fifth!). I humbly ask for your prayers for a smooth pregnancy, and that the will of God be done.

I must admit, I have a bit of hope for a boy after my first three girls, but of course I am open to, and trust in, the will of God and ask for the health of my child over that, and God's will over everything. We've already offered our child to Our Lady and said a few Ave Maria's immediately upon our finding out.

Readers: Please IGNORE all my postings here. I was a recent convert and fell into errors, even heresy for which hopefully my ignorance excuses. These include rejecting the "rhythm method," rejecting the idea of "implicit faith," and being brieflfy quasi-Jansenist. I also posted occasions of sins and links to occasions of sin, not understanding the concept much at the time, so do not follow my links.

    Congratulations!

Please be assured of my continued prayers for you and your family, and particularly for this happy addition!

It is most praiseworthy that you had recourse to the patronage of Our Lady as soon as you knew you would become again a father. You ought to have your wife blessed by your Father Confessor regularly throughout gestation. The blessing for expectant mothers is to be found in the Rituale Romanum, Tit. VIII, cap. v., Benedictio mulieris prægnantis, (Romæ: Typis Polyglottis Vaticanis, 1954).

Here is the text and translation of the blessing and rubrics, found in Rev. Fr. Philip T. Weller's book The Roman Ritual, In Latin and English with Rubrics and Plainchant Notation, Volume III - Blessings (Milwaukee, WI: The Bruce Publishing Company, 1952).
