"It is licit to resist a Sovereign Pontiff who is trying to destroy the Church. I say it is licit to resist him in not following his orders and in preventing the execution of his will. It is not licit to Judge him, to punish him, or to depose him, for these are acts proper to a superior."

    ~St. Robert Bellarmine

Rest assured, however, that they're nearly always exaggerating risk.  Essentially, if there's anything out of the ordinary, their malpractice insurance doesn't cover it, so they refer you to a "high risk" OB.  They claimed that our last might have Down syndrome, but nothing ever came of it.

I would also look into the Brewer Pregnancy diet --

  • This is all very true. High risk is usually more stress then it is worth and almost always turns out fine. My daughter had an irregular heart arrhythmia at 36 weeks that cancelled home birth and everything, almost missed a c-section by literally minutes, and despite all the stress she is perfectly health and has a benign heart murmur that will cause her no problems lest she one day decide to try deep sea diving. You will be in my families prayers.
Please disregard everything I have said; I have tended to speak before fact checking.

  • Xavier, it is so true that doctor's often overstate the risks in pregnancy; but have recourse to St Gerard Majella. He is renowned for miracles in the worst case scenarios.

  • Do not have what is known as: Amniotic Fluid testing.  Do not.

The procedure can/may introduce infection and also the chance of miscarriages.  This test is NOT needed.

  • Remember, the procedure for taking Amniotic Fluid is dangerous and evasive!

  • I'm ithe hospital tonight for postpartum preeclampsia. As I keep vigil with the new babe, I'll be saying many prayers for you. I know how terribly unsettling and scary it is. Hang in there, and do keep us updated!

  • My grand niece in utero, supposedly had a calcification in her heart on ultrasound. This was supposed to be indicative of Down's Syndrome, and the OB informed the parents of this. As a pagan, the father wanted to abort because of this information.
After scouring the internet we found that this calcification was only ONE of the EIGHT markers of potential Down's, and even with ALL of the marker's,it is less than a 8- 20% risk. It certainly seems, that the OB's legal  'risk" is much less if a child with a minor insignificant marker is aborted, than take the slim "chance" that they might be sued if the child is not "perfect." ( yes parent's sue doctors for genetically disabled children).
Needless to say that this little girl was born perfect, smart and at 5 years old, very much "in charge". What a blessing she is.
(To me, a Down's child is a blessing too, but the world is aborting them into extinction- apparently they are aborting a lot of "normal " children as well  in their quest to eradicate those sweet Down's babies.)The doctor's make people crazy with all of this stuff. It was much better in the past to trust God without all of this noise and distraction.

Laudislaus and Meg-fin are right- it is always exaggerated. I will pray to St Gerard and don't concern yourself with this stuff and concentrate on keeping calm and dealing with the pre-eclampsia. God bless you

Some people claim that the Brewer diet works wonders in preventing this condition.

Yes, it was this calcification that they also leaned on to claim that it was likely that our last child would have Down's.  Nothing came of it.  And of course we didn't care if the child had Down's.  Some Down's children are the happiest and most simple people I have ever seen.  But they use this 8-20% chance to scare quite a few people into having abortions.

  • Another spoof is that the age of the mother increases down's syndrome.  Truth is the chances of women over 35 years, having a downs syndrome child is doubled, which is 2 times 1 percent. To boil it down to more truth, women over 35 years of age have a 97% chance of healthy normal babies.
