Today has been the worst day I've experienced in a long time.

First the hard drive on my main computer crashed.

I had a second hard drive, which had SOME stuff. Not everything, but at least some stuff. I MOVED that all to my external hard drive. I went with "move" instead of "copy" because I wanted to be able to pick up where I left off, etc. since it was 440 GB. Copying that much takes a while, and in case it couldn't read some file (or some other excuse) I wouldn't want to have to start over. So I MOVED the files off that 1 TB hard drive.

But the worst thing happened when I unhooked the external hard drive and DROPPED IT 3 feet onto my desk, from the shelf it was on. Now I can't access it. I broke it.

All I have is a backup DVD I made on 3/11/19. Some files I have to go back even further... to 1/14/19.

I know, I'm stupid for not backing up to DVD more often. With hindsight I feel such regret right now. I feel awful; I feel like I'm being punished.

That external HD was a big part of my routine backups. I wouldn't expect to lose 3 hard drives in one day -- but I just did.

Worst. Day. Of. My. Life.

I know it's pathetic, but a huge part of my life is on the computer. It's my full time job. It's my side business #1, #2, #3, etc. I spend a lot of recreation time there, etc.

It's like my whole office burnt to the ground.

I know I have to "let go" of most of it, and most of it probably isn't a big deal. But I feel like I've just been shot in the gut.

Having to redo old work is always a nightmare, but at least it's a lot quicker the second time 'round. Maybe even better from experience.

Prayed that you can recover it, and that if not trying to redo all your work, etc. is as quick and painless as possible.

I would try taking the original main hard drive that crashed and running it in an external enclosure ... with USB connection.  Sometimes hard drives crash but aren't 100% dead yet.  Perhaps the boot sector crashed but the rest of the disk can be read, so accessing it as a secondary drive might work.

Now sometimes drives can be repaired ... depending on what actually happened to them when they broke.
