Possibly cursed from horror movie - need help

  • Hi,
    I am new here.
I just need someone to tell me whether it's possible to get cursed from watching a horror movie. I watched one a while ago and started getting my first symptoms a few days later. Not saying it's certainly the case but it seems very possible given the movie was about curses and things. Also, the title is pretty straight forward. It's pretty much requesting to be cursed if you watch it.

I'm Christian, I pray a lot, etc. but I still have the symptoms. When I sleep with my Rosary I get nightmares.

Not saying I'm posessed but I'm definitely under the influence of something here.

So is it possible? And if so, what do I do about it? Would watching the movie again reverse the spell, do I need to see an exorcist? I've confessed my sins several times but that didn't seem to help so I'm guessing whatever this is needs to be addressed in a certain way.

Thanks for the input. Looking forward to your comments.

  • It's far from funny actually...

Just asking whether it's possible and what to do about it.

I will only respond in the interest of other people reading.

No it is not possible for A MOVIE in general to carry a curse.
Curses according to vulgar/traditional demonology can be attached to single objects/persons via black magic rituals.

What could happen due to being exposed to paranormal/esoteric/occult material (I suppose including a movie) is a person unconsciously or consciously (as a dare for instance) inviting spirits (demons) in, increasing the likelyhood of a demonic attack of sorts.

I recommend that you contact Fr. Gary Thomas, who is an exorcist and priest in the Diocese of San Jose, California.

His email is g.thomas@sacredheartsaratoga.org, or phone 408-867-3634.

He's Novus Ordo, but I can't think of any other American Catholic exorcist.  More info here:

Hahaha indeed -- I don't think curses work on a logical XOR (exclusive OR) principle.

Basically XOR is like the logical OR, only if you have TWO 1's, they cancel out and become 0.

  • As silly as it may sound, is there any chance that the spells that were said in the movie were destined for the viewer?

I look forward to hearing what others have to say about this.

  • I don't have any idea on whether a movie can cause a curse, but it's certainly dangerous to open oneself to this type of thing (i.e. sinful curiosity).  Maybe God is allowing the devil to attack you more than usual because you exposed yourself to satanic things, which is an occasion to sin, at least, if not sinful.  I would go to confession, talk to a priest and make a novena to St Benedict or St Michael as penance and to ask their blessing.

  • I don't know if this is on topic or not, but after I saw the movie, The Rite, I definitely felt "attacked" or "invaded"  --- the only way to put it -- and in some state of "panic" about that.  I practically raced to Confession the next day to seek a sacramental "exorcism," if I can say it that way.

The film was awful; I saw it too. I can see how someone would feel attacked after seeing it. I felt the same after seeing "The Exorcist" in the 1970's. It took months to get over it.

One has to understand how magic actually works.

    In essence:
Magic as a independent force does not exist.

Spells have no force in themselves, there is no such thing as the stuff you see in fantasy/horror movies such as Harry Potter.

Magic works via the intercession of demons. All kinds of magic.

A spell in a movie cannot be directed to anyone, as it is just words on a screen.

Hmm.  When I was visiting my mother the other day, she was watching "Rosemary's Baby".  I watched part of it with her and had to leave the room at one point.  It definitely had a negative affect on me, but I wouldn't say it lasted like it did for some others here.  Perhaps because I removed myself from it.

But I wouldn't doubt that the Devil could use certain movies to his advantage.

  • Okay, this is honestly really stupid. You're not cursed from watching a horror movie. The nightmares you have been getting are just that: nightmares. People get nightmares sometimes, especially after watching a scary movie.  It's not a part of anything larger.
