I am doing a research paper about some of Church history. Do any of you know any place where I can find some quotes of popes who erred in the past in their beliefs? I don't mean recent popes, but popes who lived hundreds of years ago or so. I need this because some in-laws cannot understand what papal infallibility really means. Thank you.

There is not a single example in the entire history of the Church of a Pope teaching grave error against the Faith in his ordinary magisterium.

I meant in his private opinion. Such as John XXII believing that there is no private judgment after death. Or the pope of St. Ambrose's day who believed that one could be baptized in the Name of Jesus only and not the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

There are some rare examples of Popes erring as private individuals.

Such examples though have nothing to do with our present crisis, as the men claiming to be popes have taught heresy and error in their ordinary magisterium, and have promulgated evil universal laws.

Ambrose always has a theological ax to grind. Pay no attention to him. He has gone on record declaring the inerrarncy of all authentic papal teaching. Ambrose is a popalater.

I'm not sure where one can find the resource, but the Vatican I Fathers actually came up with a substantial list of errors made by popes in their authentic magisterium ... and this list contributed to their circuмscribing infallibility by the so-called notes.

No, I am stating facts. Why does it matter whether some Popes err as private individuals? It's irrelevant.

How did you know about my father? Thank you for the prayers. He died on May 5. The day of St. Pius V. My father came to tradition before he died and received conditional Baptism and Confirmation. He also received Extreme Unction and Viaticuм. Thanks again for your prayers.
