The French tricolor flag is a sign of the French Revolution inasmuch as the Koran is a sign of another political regime, Islam.
Quote
The beatification of the Maid of France in April,1909, was one more token of the Pope s love of the country that had given so much for God, and thepresence in Rome of forty thousand of her children, led by sixty-seven of her Bishops, was but another proof of her true spirit. And when at the end of the ceremony, borne in the Sedia Gestatoria through the crowd, the Holy Father, leaning forward, lifted the fold of the French flag that had been lowered at his passage and reverently kissed it, the enthusiasm knew no bounds. That flag had stood for much that was not noble; the memory of its origin was still in the minds of many. But by that kiss it was consecrated for ever blood shed in battle for the right was to wash out the stain of blood shed in mad passion it stands now for the soul of France.

Thus, if Pope St. Pius X kissed the French tricolor flag, what is the big deal about John Paul II kissing the Koran?

  • People associate the flag of a country with respect for national identity.  The Koran or any religious book or symbol is associated with worship or veneration for the god it represents.  Respect is not worship or veneration.  Our Lord showed due respect for the civil authority, ungodly as they were.  Never did He worship or venerate the symbol of a false god!  As an American, I respect the symbol of my country.  I obey the authorities in all but sin.  I pay my taxes.  I do not go to the local ѕуηαgσgυє to pray, and I do not bow to allah in the mosque.
St. Francis Xavier threw a Crucifix into the sea, at once calming the waves.  Upon reaching the shore, the Crucifix was returned to him by a crab with a curious cross pattern on its shell.

Since I can't imagine you are suggesting that the acts are equivalent rather than merely apparently and materially similar, I will ask you, what do you think the difference is ?  I appreciate many of your posts, Geremia, but I think asking a rhetorical question in this manner is irresponsible unless you provide an answer.

In any case, the clear intent of the Pontiff was to reverence the land and people of France as symbolised by the tricolor in spite of its problematic history and other significations.  The clear intent of Wojtyla was to promote ecuмenism and to reverence the false religion of Mohammedanism itself, as per the Conciliar approval of it as a "means of sanctification."  Any consultation of St Pius X's words and acts, namely his letter "Notre charge apostolique" on the Christian democratic "Sillon" movement, will make this clear.  And so it seems his action here was understood accordingly.  There was likewise little ambiguity about the action of Wojtyla with regard to the Koran.

  • I recently heard that some Rothschild, from years ago, was "exempted" from bowing to Pope Pius IX, and that supposedly to this day, none of the Rothschilds have to bow to the Pope, or show any reverent gesture towards him as everyone else does.  Sounds just as bogus to me.

  • I doubt it was much of a scandal back then. The Chinese flag is associated with the Chinese people and not Maoism and thus is flown by immigrants without shocking anyone. Unless there was heavy "flag propaganda" back then like we have today with the nαzι's and the USSR, I doubt that flag was associated with anti-clericalism during the time of St. Pius X by the masses.

Assuming the flag was associated with the revolution, then that is far less of a scandal than kissing the "holy" book of a false religion that rejects Christ and the Holy Trinity. If everyone here were forced by God's might to either choose between kissing the flag of Israel or kissing the тαℓмυd, I think it's obvious we'd go for the flag without hesitation.
