  • Pope Marxist I's encyclical on "climate change" is due to be released. What a gem this is gonna be!

    ----------------------------------------

Draft of Pope Francis’ Climate Change Encyclical Leaks
    by Jason Plautz

June 15, 2015 - An Italian magazine has leaked a draft of Pope Francis's anticipated encyclical on climate change, which says global warming is a threat to the world's poor and calls on governments to work together to solve the problem.

A 192-page Italian-language version of the encyclical, set to be released Thursday, was leaked by L'Espresso. An official statement from the Vatican says the docuмent does not represent the final text, and a spokesman told Bloomberg that the leak was a "heinous act."

The docuмent, titled "Laudato Sii," is meant to influence the United Nations climate talks in Paris at the end of the year, but is expected to also make waves in the national debate about climate change. Green groups and the faith community are calling it potentially one of the most influential docuмents on climate change, while skeptics have been quick to dismiss the potential impact.

Based on a Google translation of the docuмent, here's what you need to know about what the draft says.

    1) Global warming is real
While the docuмent largely focuses on theology and morality, it does go headlong into the science of the causes and impacts of climate change. The draft docuмent says there is a scientific consensus that the climate is warming because of human actions, and that it is reflected in rising sea levels and increasing extreme weather events. The docuмent even goes further into specific consequences of climate change on biodiversity and marine life, among others.

    2) Fossil fuels are a problem
The encyclical states that fossil fuels, such as oil and to a lesser extent natural gas, should be phased out without delay in favor of renewable energy. While renewable power is built up, the encyclical says, it is permissible to rely on fossil fuels, but that overall, the extraction and burning of oil and gas is evil. The docuмent further calls for countries to adopt policies that will reduce emissions of carbon dioxides and other gases.

One policy that Francis dismisses is the use of carbon credits, which he says could give rise to speculation rather than direct action to reduce emissions.

    3) Governments should act on climate change—and do it right
The timing of the encyclical is no mystery—Vatican officials have said the docuмent is meant to influence the United Nations climate talks in Paris this year. Francis repeatedly calls on governments to fight climate change, both domestically and through international agreements.

Francis says previous international negotiations, specifically the 2012 UN meetings in Rio de Janeiro, produced ineffective results because countries were looking after the own interests rather than the common good. Francis also is calling on countries to set their own long-term policies on climate change, warning that environmental regulations should not change as governments come in and out of power.

    4) Poor people are feeling the impact
Given Francis's focus on the poor throughout his papacy, it was expected that his encyclical would highlight how climate change has impacted poor nations and communities. The docuмent says that the impacts will fall heaviest on developing countries, which will feel a greater brunt from warming and are seeing depletion of crops, water, and other natural resources. Further, Francis points out that poor people may flee countries because of environmental degradation and decries a general indifference to this plight from the developed world.

    5) Rich countries should take the burden
The docuмent goes after inaction by developed nations, which Francis says have been consuming resources without concern for the planet and the poor. Francis highlights other negative impacts of the developed world, such as the privatization of green spaces and the improper disposal of resources by industrial activity. Because of that, Francis says that it's incuмbent on developed countries to consider the needs of the poor while addressing climate change and emissions.

Earlier action, he says, was held back by countries trying to protect their own interests rather than thinking globally; a future agreement, he says, must rely on developed countries taking responsibility for their previous emissions and cutting back on consumption, while also helping poorer countries invest in renewable energy.

"This principle is most certain: The non-Christian cannot in any way be Pope. The reason for this is that he cannot be head of what he is not a member. Now, he who is not a Christian is not a member of the Church, and a manifest heretic is not a Christian, as is clearly taught by St. Cyprian, St. Athanasius, St. Augustine, St. Jerome, and others. Therefore, the manifest heretic cannot be Pope." -- St. Robert Bellarmine

  • I wonder if the pope / anti-pope will excommunicate those Catholics like me who believe that global warming is a scam and a communist plot to seize more power.
    R.I.P.
Please pray for the repose of my soul.

As if it matters. I'd celebrate excommunication from his cult just as the angels in Heaven celebrate the conversion of just one sinner.

  • The pope is working on revolution:  getting us all fired up.  When is he to come to the USA?  I was just reading my book "The Church threatened from within".  It states: a few months before a conference(referring to Puebla) books appeared with Marxist ideology.  Statements made of "enslavement and oppression, things against the gov't.  Hm?  When is he coming?

  • And yet Bergoglio continues to fly around the world in a fossil fueled jet.  Perhaps I'd think he was serious if he put solar panels on every roof in the Vatican, or, better yet, eliminated the use of electrical power at the Vatican and lived more like the first 255 or so popes.  The Vatican could use renewable wood for cooking and heating.  I'm sure that would greatly reduce the "greenhouse gasses" used by the Vatican.  :furtive:

I wonder if whale oil would be considered a "renewable energy source"...

This is true. Whenever there is a problem it is the poor who suffer the most.

There is only one truth. There is no such thing as scientific truth and religious truth which collide with each other.

  • The Curiosity of the Modern Encyclical

    Quote

Modern encyclicals are a curious thing. The encyclical developed from the papal bull. The bull was a primarily juridical instrument used as a means of promulgating an authoritative judgment of the Holy See, either in matters of doctrine or governance. These could often be very short; we marvel today at reading something like Boniface VIII's Unam Sanctam (1302) - which famously declared that submission to the Roman pontiff was necessary for salvation - and is only a page long! Papal bulls in the old days knew what they wanted to say and they said it.

    ...................

Somewhere along the way the popes seemed to have dropped the declarative aspect of the encyclical in the overly optimistic hope that if we could just explain our teaching to the world - just walk them through our thinking step by step - then maybe the world would accept the Church's message. Maybe if we simply "proposed" our rationale for belief humbly instead of declaring that we "had" the truth, the world would reciprocate and enter into a "fruitful dialogue" with Christianity that would mutually enrich everybody?

Fruitful dialogue. Reciprocate. Mutually Enrich. Sorry, my post-Conciliar vocabulary started taking over for a moment.

Seriously though, the problem with this approach is fourfold:

     (a) The world does not reject the Gospel because it has not been adequately explained. They reject it "because the light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than the light: for their works were evil" (John 3:19).

     (b) Even when its has opted for explaining rather than declaring the Church's teaching, the Church has done a poor job of it because it has chosen to explain its teachings in terms of humanist phenomenology rather than having recourse to the Church's traditional pedagogy.

     (c) By focusing so much on the explanation and presentation over the declaration, the Church has unwittingly given the false impression that the validity of its teachings are bound up with the force of her argumentation, a kind of false intellectualism. She feels shaky and inadequate simply saying, "Such is the voice of the Church; such is the teaching of our Faith"; she feels she must offer a humanistic centered explanation for everything - an explanation that will "suit" the needs of "contemporary man" - with the effect that her message has become completely man-centered. "He taught as one who had authority" (Matt. 7:29) said the people of old about Christ; but when the Church forgets the supernatural force that stands behind her teaching and opts instead for an anthropomorphized message, she no longer "speaks with authority", in the sense that her words lose their force. Hence people shrug at the latest papal docuмent and move on.

     (d) Finally, because the popes have sought for novel means to propose their teachings, encyclicals lose their strenght as teaching docuмents and become instead opportunities for the popes to foist their own theological or literary tastes on the Catholic people. The phenomenology of John Paul II, the Balthasarian-Hegelian-Teilhardism of Benedict XVI, and now the sort of "literary theology" of Francis. Each pontiff has opted not use traditional pedagogy, which means every pope has to "try something new" in how they choose to teach.

If anyone says that true and natural water is not necessary for baptism and thus twists into some metaphor the words of our Lord Jesus Christ" Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Spirit" (Jn 3:5) let him be anathema.

  • The entire Christian civilization totally collapsing around us, apostasy and heresy everywhere, the Church suffering one of the worse crisis in Her whole history, moral law and human reason totally being destroyed, and the Pope, instead of concerning himself with defending the Church and Her dogmas from Her diabolical Enemies and rescuing souls from imminent damnation, is writing a 187 pages encyclical on environmentalist matters?

How long until we see an encyclical condemning the heretical errors of our times and actually preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ by defending the necessity of entering the Catholic Church for all human salvation?
