  • Please at least make an ATTEMPT to pick a more accurate sub-forum than "general".

I know there's a lot of overlap -- but pick one. NOT General for every topic. This is not a brand-new forum with only one category and 10 members.
CathInfo is large and popular, and we're NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO FIND ANYTHING if we don't keep things in the proper categories.

I couldn't find a topic about the SSPX shutting down all public Masses. Because it was in General. HELLO, MCFLY?! What do you think the "Resistance" subforum is for?

Take a moment to read over the descriptions of the various sub-forums if you're unfamiliar with them.
    Ignorance is no excuse.

I might just restrict the General subforum to moderators only, and turn it into "announcements from the Moderator" or something. That'll learn ya.

  • Matthew,

Was this meant for me?  It looks like my thread entitles:  "Coronavirus and the proper disposition regarding legal authorities" was moved to the "Fighting Errors in the Modern World" which concerns resisting errors as well as various cօռspιʀαcιҽs and evil men who conspire against mankind.  I am not so sure that it fits there but nonetheless, I will try to place things in their proper categories in the future.  Is this the category ("Fighting Modern Errors" where all discussions regarding the coronavirus and the justice or lack thereof of various legislation as well as our proper responses as individuals, families, and as a community should go?
P.S.  I was hoping to get your reflections on the thread.

  • CathInfo is large and popular...
To be frank, it is kind of a ghost town compared to years ago, especially considering a lot of people are basically home all the time.  Still, I shall abide by your directive.

  • Why not just block people who post things in the wrong category? People will stop using the forum if you block posting about general topics.

So here I'll express my gratitude for your money & time funding & operating CathInfo over its many years.

[...] and we're not going to be able to find anything if we don't keep things in the proper categories. [....] What do you think the "Resistance" subforum is for?

Indeed.  I've repeatedly experienced comparable frustration.  Including what might be called the inverse problem, e.g., once when I hastily skimmed the list of most recent postings, I saw a topic apparently about "Pope Francis" Bergoglio having privately discussed with a friend his intention to abdicate in the near future (the occasion being identified in the story).  But when I had time to read it, I had unexpected difficulty finding it. Where did it go?  Well!  It was posted in the "Resistance" subforum, even tho' it did not mention SSPX, nor anything distinctively associated with SSPX!

"Ignorance"?  Hah!  Were I funding & operating a Web site with multiple subforums, which consumed money & time over many years that was not spent on my own family, I'd be especially exasperated by my impression that the worst offenders are a half-dozen-or-so long-time CathInfo members who are credited with much more than a thousand postings each.

If there's something you think goes in General, please post the subject here. I'll tell you which category would be BETTER.
Putting everything in "General" is a bad habit, a laziness that unfortunately some members have fallen into. I'm here to break that bad habit.

  • To be frank, it is kind of a ghost town compared to years ago, especially considering a lot of people are basically home all the time.  Still, I shall abide by your directive.

A lot of people must be aloof from forums then, because it's not like a new Trad Catholic forum has supplanted CI.
Fisheaters has more posts, thanks to its age and "past glory", but it is a decayed shell of its former self. It has a small fraction of CathInfo's traffic today.

I guess we all need to get used to this common question/answer pair:

Question: "It's so SMALL! Where is the real place to be?"
    Answer: "There isn't one".

This applies to Traditional Mass venues. If you're looking for "The Old SSPX" having "old SSPX" numbers, you're out of luck. You can either have the old SSPX faithfulness and zeal (the Resistance) and endure small numbers, or go for "popularity" and basically immerse yourself in a watered-down, compromised Indult "Latin Mass" community.

If you want BOTH fidelity AND numbers -- better have a time machine.

P.S. CathInfo isn't at the top of Google search results by accident. They still have Fisheaters as #1, but that's due to a flaw in the Google algorithm. Let's just say they give too much credit to "past high school trophies" rather than one's current physical shape. They give extra points for older domain names. FE has been around a few years longer than CI. For that matter, they have Catholic Answers in the Top 3 results for "Traditional Catholic forum", and they don't even *tolerate* Tradition, much less any groups unapproved by Rome.

But I've done the math, compared "online users" at various times, total post count on both forums (and again 3 months later) -- and the math proves that Fisheaters has less than 1/3 the traffic of CI now. All the good people left for CI or one of the FE spinoffs years ago.

Maybe.  It was not meant as a knock, just an observation based upon years-ago previous experience.

For my part, I am glad CI is still operational and grateful for the work it takes.

Still, there are only so many ways you can have discussions about the same topics over and over and over.  People naturally grow tired of hearing that they are schismatic or ignorant, etc.

As I said years ago, Traddies tend to give themselves an endless amount of latitude, while granting next to zero to those with whom they (presently) disagree about highly-disputed aspects of the most insanely difficult and trying crisis in history.  Gets old, yo....

P.S.  I was hoping to get your reflections on the thread.

Anything suggesting a fight against bad guys, or anything regarding cօռspιʀαcιҽs -- including INFORMATION WARS (propaganda, bad info vs. the truth, etc.) goes in Fighting Errors subforum.

If a COVID post is more about treatment, remedies, then it would go in HEALTH.

If it's more about day-to-day life as a Catholic family living through this COVID pandemic, maybe "Catholics Living in the Modern World".

If it's about the Vatican ANYTHING, it should automatically go in CRISIS IN THE CHURCH. If your topic has the words "Pope, Francis, Cardinal, Bishop (other than Trad bishops), any conciliar priest, etc. it should automatically go in the Crisis subforum.

There are some topics that could be legit placed in more than one subforum. I'll be nice: TAKE YOUR PICK. I'm not nitpicking here. What I'm frustrated with (and why I locked the General subforum to prevent new posts) is that people act like there's no better place for their new topics -- when there clearly is. They act like the other subfora either don't exist, or no one reads them.

ALL POSTS APPEAR ON the "Recent Topics" page, as well as the "Recent Posts" sidebar on the homepage. The least popular subforum as well as General Discussion. You don't get any extra visibility or eyeballs by placing all your posts in General.
