  • Please pray for the soul of J.S. who lived near La Marque (Houston) TX, who passed away today. He was terminally ill for many months now.

His wife, who he was married to for many decades, passed away about 1 year ago. He missed her a lot.

I met both of them several times whenever I visited Bp. Zendejas' chapel outside Houston. The couple was one of the pillars of Bp Zendejas' Texas apostolate.
They were a strong, very Traditional, very devout Catholic couple. I have to speak of them together, because it's really hard to think about them separately. They lived integral (whole, as opposed to schizoid or divided) Catholic lives. They were Catholic 24/7. I visited their home once, and you could tell that Trad Catholics lived there!

They volunteered, donated, and organized like you wouldn't believe. They lent/gave all sorts of critical equipment to the parish there.

I'm sorry I don't have all the minute details normal for an obituary -- but I know "enough". For BOTH of them, there is good reason to hope for salvation. They both attended daily Traditional Mass when possible, and they were very generous with their time and money with Bp. Zendejas, helping his apostolate in many ways.

I would call him the Coordinator of the chapel, but I think Stella Maris has more of a "triumvirate", with several men splitting up the job as it were. Let's just say he was one of the coordinators and go-to men who was always willing to help out when something needed to be done.

May his soul (and his wife's soul) receive eternal blessings for all they did to support and build up the Church -- precious in God's sight -- upon earth.

    Requiescat in Pace.

If they died wearing (or having been in the habit of wearing) the Scapular, and they made their First Saturdays, then we can more than just "hope" for their salvation; we can be morally certain of it.  Our Lady keeps her promises.

  • Matthew's post does not give but a small glimpse of these people. They were exceedingly charitable, warm, compassionate, and inviting. They did so much more then that for others, though don't know if I should speak of it. They gave refuge (asylum?) to people who needed it, fed them, gave them drink. Mr. S would help others whenever he could when they needed it. Mrs. S always took care of priests through the years like they were her children, eliciting their deep gratitude. These were beautiful people, inside and out, and that can't be stressed enough.
