I have hidden a few (green scapulars)under his mattress, but I'm never sure how long they stay there. I have a blessed (by a Benedictine Traditional priest) St Benedict crucifix laying flat on top of his mantle. He has a purple Blessed Julie Jehenney scapula somewhere and he still has his holy water. He rejects a lot of stuff because he really hasn't succeeded at much, even though he used to pray for help- so I think he is afraid to have trust or faith because the disappointment crushes him when it goes bad, which it mostly does. it's a tough one
Does your son affiliate faith and hope and eventual salvation with worldly success?
I don't know the mind of your son but many of the young now believe religion is kind of a coin operated belief system where you will get everything you need if you just say a few prayers. Doesn't work like that, I think many of our youth have not got used to disappointment. Anyway, Faith is a lot deeper than that. The Church is like your family, they will disappoint no matter how much love and commitment you throw at them, but it's not about "getting something back". It's much deeper than that.
Anyway, I have two sons who've struggled as well, but they still keep praying. I will keep your son in my prayers.
