• Mio is currently in need of urgent prayers. He has been having blood pressure dips indicating his heart is struggling. He needs a miracle.
Mio's Current Status
Updated 2018-11-18
Mio is critical. His heart is struggling to keep up with him and he is very tired.
He is being evaluated day to day, as he needs more adjustments on his medical support. He turns 8 months old on 2018-11-22. Mio is intubated and relying on mechanical ventilation to breathe. He is undergoing peritoneal dialysis to perform the work his failing kidneys would perform. His current challenges:

• He has severe edema which poses an infection risk.
• His right lung is partially collapsed.
• He has low blood pressure episodes as his heart struggles.
• He has episodes of low oxygen saturation and mean arterial pressure.
• His right upper lobe's pulmonary arteries have thrombosed, resulting in the loss of this section of lung for gas exchange.
• His kidneys have failed.
• His liver is negatively impacted by fluid levels and blood flow.
• Doctors are having difficulty reducing his fluid levels.
• His heart is tough and hypertrophic. It has difficulty keeping up with his needs.

However some things are also looking better than they have in the past:

• He has improved pulmonary artery function in his left PA branch due to a series of surgeries.
• His gastrointestinal bleed has resolved.

Who is Mio?
Mio was born March 2018, a miracle baby after 5 years of difficulty having a child. He has a very friendly and curious personality, and he is the greatest blessing we could have asked for! The tiny 4lb 12oz baby won over our hearts right away and continues to amaze us with his joy and sweet laughter. He loves everyone he meets, and continues to spread joy everywhere he goes. His home is in Austin, Texas. Right now, though, he lives in California at Lucille Packard Children's Hospital in Stanford.
Mio needs prayers to save his life. Please consider dedicating some time every day to pray for his recovery. Particularly, his parents are seeking the intercession of Venerable Antonietta Meo, but any way you pray can help!

Mio's treatment history
Updated 2018-11-18
Mio was diagnosed at 27 weeks of gestation with Tetralogy of Fallot. This congenital heart defect is primarily caused by a large hole between the two sides of his heart. With the extra flow the pressures between the sides of the heart resulted in less flow to his pulmonary arteries, which didn't grow as much as a normal child's would and were considered "stenotic" as a result.
Mio was born 2018-03-22 at Texas Children's Hospital so that he could receive immediate care for his heart issues. Within a week he was fighting for his life against severe acidosis. He received two heart catheterizations including a ballooning and a stent which improved bloodflow and helped him survive this hazardous time. He was able to go home 2018-05-09.
Mio continued to receive regular checkups and eventually was taken in for another heart catheterization on 2018-08-06. The result of this heart catheterization was the discovery that catheterizations would no longer be effective due to the physiology of his heart. He would need surgery, and soon.
On 2018-09-12 Mio had his first of several open heart surgeries to repair his heart physiology and expand the size of his pulmonary arteries. These surgeries were less effective than expected due to his unusual physiology and reaction to the surgeries. However, Mio is a fighter and continues to surprise doctors with his resilience.
On 2018-10-07 Mio had a severe incident of accute right ventricle failure. This was possibly due to a large clot blocking his right pulmonary arteries completely. His heart could not fight this pressure increase and began to fail. He was placed onto ECMO, a form of heart-lung bypass which can be used for medium-term treatment. All that could save him were risky surgeries, which did not have much hope of success. However, there was a path forward and the doctors pushed onwards with treatments to relieve pressure on his heart and clear the clot in his pulmonary arteries. Mio managed to surprise everyone by surviving and improving. He came off ECMO on 2018-10-18 and has been slowly recovering since then.
Mio went onto dialysis to help his kidneys recover on 2018-10-23
Mio was weaned off nitric and several other drugs successfully in anticipation of an MRI which occurred on 2018-11-15. This MRI indicated his pulmonary arteries had not grown and that his heart was continuing to struggle.

Prayers for Mio
Prayer for the intercession of Venerable Antonietta Meo
Venerable "Nennolina", wise beyond your years, please look upon baby Mio and ask Jesus for a baby-sized miracle. May he live long enough to go home with his Mom and Dad, and then may he live even longer than the doctors expect so that he may grow old enough to be a good playmate for you in heaven. Ask Jesus to fill him with wisdom and love like he gave to you. May he bear his suffering joyously, and may his family be comforted.
Lord Jesus, who granted to Venerable Antonietta Meo peace even during her illness, we ask that you look upon baby Mio and bestow healing graces. May your sacred heart, which when pierced by a lance poured forth blood and water, now pour forth the graces to heal his heart and make it like yours. Please preserve Mio's life so that he may grow old enough to know and love you with the same affection Venerable Antonietta had for you.
Our Father
Hail Mary
Glory Be
Venerable Antonietta Meo
pray for us
Amen

Help of Christians, guard our land from assault or inward stain,
Let it be what God has planned, His new Eden where You reign.
