  •

I also passed through the FSSP.  I left when I found out their priests were ordained by a NO Bishop.

The sermons by the FSSP priest were actually more fire and brimstone and anti-V2 than I have ever heard at SSPX or CMRI.  He was a young priest but was on the ball when it came to those issues.

The ordination issue loomed large for me though so I decided to jump ship.

  • Thank you so much for the picture!  It makes me cry, thinking of the beauty and we have lost.

  • When I get asked by the parishioners at the FSSP parish why I am not satisfied. What can I say as a defense of the position the resistance holds? Often I only have time to say a few words before they tune me out. I know I can't convert them, only the Holy Ghost can, but I feel I owe it to some of them since they are my friends.

It is a lonely road that we have all chosen. I truly feel like a pilgrim making his way home.

  • What bothers me about attending mass with an "approved" traditional order is that is that there is no unity among the lay people when it comes to traditionalist issues.

Some of the people who go to mass there feel the same way as the SSPX about Vatican 2 and the new mass while other people take a more conservative approach about Vatican 2 that it was a wonderful council which was latter misinterpreted by liberals. While other people are clueless about any of those things and are  just there to see what an old Latin mass looks like. I've seen people in the pews trying to follow along to the mass using an novus ordo missalette! I've also seen people get up and leave during the mass because they were just there out of curiosity and they decided it wasn't for them. Also the way people dress during mass varies from modest and appropriate to highly inappropriate for mass, especially women.

I try not to let these things bother me too much and want to not fall into the habit of being overly judgmental and pharisaical . But I can't help from being a little disturbed. It's the only TLM I have access to right now.  On a positive note the mass is beautiful and priest is orthodox and doesn't preach heresy.

    God Bless
    James

  • If you leave, what is your dissatisfaction?  It should be: there is no Precious Blood here, I am looking for Christ and he is not here.  I went to my Lady and she showed to me where He was.

-Depending on the priest, his orders may be doubtful.
-Is the NO celebrated in the same Church?  If so, you may literally be stepping on Our Lord
-Your priest's performance of the TLM is conditional on his assent that it is just a prettier form of the NO (he may not actually believe this, but this is a provision under Summorum Pontificuм)
-You don't want your family to be going to a Church that treats the crisis as something cosmetic (i.e., you don't want to go to a place where the 'problems' in the church are incidental or accidental-- your position on the crisis in the Church is that the Crisis proceeds from VII in and of itself, and the New Mass in and of itself, etc. The FSSP at least in policy does not believe this)
-If any of the above can be said honestly by you, you can also say that you do not want to go because you do not want to scandalize others by giving your tacit approval of any of the above points

Also, sometimes loneliness can be a good thing.  People can be a distraction to God.

    Be Blessed and Preserved.
"Be kind; do not seek the malicious satisfaction of having discovered an additional enemy to the Church... And, above all, be scrupulously truthful. To all, friends and foes alike, give that serious attention which does not misrepresent any opinion, does not distort any statement, does not mutilate any quotation. We need not fear to serve the cause of Christ less efficiently by putting on His spirit". (Vermeersch, 1913).
