  • Holy QB! The Philadelphia Eagles to Sign Tim Tebow (UPDATED)

    April 19, 2015Leave a Comment
    by: Kate O'Hare

Back on March 19, I reported on the strange coincidences between quarterback Tim Tebow and the Scriptural reference John 3:16, especially during his stint with the Denver Broncos. I ended the story with this:
What we do know is that Tebow worked out on Monday for the Philadelphia Eagles, who didn’t immediately want to sign him (but didn’t say they never would). If perhaps the Eagles did eventually take Tebow, he would be the backup to Mark Sanchez, the same QB he was second-string for at the New York Jets.

At this point, it’s uncertain whether Tebow will ever suit up again for the NFL, but he might have sought a little bit of that Gospel mojo with the Eagles.

And what was the date on Monday?

    Why, 3/16, of course.

     :rahrah:
May God bless you and keep you

  • Notwithstanding that professional spectator sports is an infantile, diabolical waste of time not worth even the time it takes to condemn, Tim Tebow is a Protestant heretic who flaunts his "piety" with the showboating, attention-seeking shamelessness of a streetwalker. He deserves no praise from us whatsoever, and rather deserves our opprobrium for the wicked blasphemy against Our Crucified Lord he committed by posing for a faggy, shirtless vanity photo in GQ magazine wherein he is standing with his arms extended in a cruciform manner and with his head tilted downward in clear mockery of Our Divine Saviour.

    I don't follow you.

Some godless corporate outfit is "improved" by the presence of a blaspheming heretic?

Will hell be "improved" by Tebow's presence if he dies in his current state and ends up there?

  • Hit-and-run-downthumber:

Please combat me with words and not inarticulate, sulky gestures. It would seem you take issue with my having called Tim Tebow a blasphemer and a heretic. Please demonstrate for us how he is not a heretic or a blasphemer, or how his skill in professionally playing a schoolyard game is such that we ought to overlook his heresy and blasphemy.

  • There is actually a lot of pro-life players in the NFL.  Matt Birk is just one example. Birk refused a visit  the White House because Obama support of Planned Parenthood.  No huge media firestorm over that but after all Birk was just a center. There are plenty of other religious players in the NFL  that the media never went after.  The personality cult that surrounds Tebow is ridiculous.  He is not being singled out because of his faith. He is singled out by the media because he is a quarterback with a pretty face.

  • The best thing that could happen to Tim Tebow is for him to convert to the Traditional Catholic Faith!

Everything said by BTNYC about Tim Tebow and Protestantism being heretical is spot on.

    No doubt true.

I think St Francis de Sales advice is the best in that it's acceptable to watch a sporting event but we should not take delight in it.

  • Perhaps Staubach's most famous moment was the "Hail Mary pass" in the 1975 playoff game against the Minnesota Vikings. With seconds on the clock and the Cowboys trailing 14–10, Staubach launched a 50-yard bomb to wide receiver Drew Pearson, who caught the pass and strode into the end zone for a 17-14 victory. After the game, Staubach said he threw up a prayer now named the "Hail Mary" . Since then, any last-minute pass play to the end zone in a desperate attempt to score a game-winning touchdown is referred to as a "Hail Mary pass" in reference to Staubach's famous play.

There are some people who are obsessed with sports.

    Everything in moderation.

Staubach, one of the greats among NFL quarterbacks, is not the one who coined the term "Hail Mary" pass.  A Cowboy quarterback told an interviewer after completing a late winning pass that said he said a quick Hail Mary before throwing the ball.  That same quarterback is alleged to have entered the porn industry as a male porn actor shortly after the Cowboys cut him so perhaps we should leave well enough alone.

I don't remember the name of the quarterback but it WAS NOT Staubach.

We don't buy trashy sinful magazines like GQ so we were not aware of the sinful centerfold featuring Tebow.

Nor do I. But the press made a fairly big to do about it when it happened, scarcely ever mentioning his name without showing that blasphemous image.

Tebow's showy, shallow brand of Protestantism is pretty common knowledge, though.

  • After that memorable game, Staubach, a Roman Catholic, told reporters: “I closed my eyes and said a Hail Mary.”
