  • I have no dogma to back me up; it's just a personal annoyance or pet peeve.

Disembodies heads -- stylized renditions of "people" in various logos.

    Like the image below.

It looks like the bigger person -- the babysitter -- is coming up behind the child (who is sitting down facing AWAY from the babysitter) and grabbing the child's left hand with her left hand, and drawing back her right hand to give the child a good paddling.

Go ahead, look at the graphic. Once you see it, you can't un-see it.

That's why there should be a ban on disembodied head renditions of human beings. I think it's the dumbest thing ever.

I look nothing like that! A stick figure does a better job of conveying "human" than those dumb renditions.

They are borderline creepy for some reason. And yes, some of them look accidentally BAD like some of the ones below.

Lesson learned: DON'T USE DISEMBODIED HEAD PEOPLE in your logos!

  • Wow.  Creepy.

    Did the designers know?

St. Francis Xavier threw a Crucifix into the sea, at once calming the waves.  Upon reaching the shore, the Crucifix was returned to him by a crab with a curious cross pattern on its shell.

I must admit, until you brought it up, Matthew, I wouldn't have been thinking about it, but now, I can't "unsee it" as you say.  That is, in regards to the second one on down.

I'd have never thought to ask, in the dental care sign, "Where is the right knee of the patient?"

But as for the first one, I don't see any "getting ready to spank" posture, but rather I see a kind of square dance or running-down-the-beach, hand-in-hand posture.

My sister is a dental hygienist.  The patient is Mr. M. who lost his right leg in Vietnam.  He comes in every other month for cleaning and a gum treatment.

  • "This principle is most certain: The non-Christian cannot in any way be Pope. The reason for this is that he cannot be head of what he is not a member. Now, he who is not a Christian is not a member of the Church, and a manifest heretic is not a Christian, as is clearly taught by St. Cyprian, St. Athanasius, St. Augustine, St. Jerome, and others. Therefore, the manifest heretic cannot be Pope." -- St. Robert Bellarmine

  • I've been seeing all the "signs you're in a police state" things lately (I think from a Dr. Who, which I know nothing about by the way), but I'd definitely add propaganda to those "signs", and completely inoffensive de-humanized human representations should definitely count as a "warning sign". We're living amongst the Commies.

If I were a revolutionary (am not), I'd insist the signs don't apply to me as I am not represented at all in said signs. Really, nobody is.

    Caution:  Illegal Alien Crossing!

I tried to find some interesting stick figures, but had zero luck.
It seems to be the case, therefore, that stick figures do not lend
themselves easily to expressive or meaningful images,
because if they did, there would be some on the Internet.
This is the closest thing to a stick figure that I could find,
that had anything to offer me, close to being interesting:

Even so, I'll be the first to admit that it is entirely meaningless.
