  • Just saw a petco commercial parading that it is pet cancer awareness month. Self-serving, promoting it's business and products over this issue and letting you know that you can donate your money away. Spot lighted a family with rover who had cancer and how devastated they all were.

Okay, now I remember reading somewhere that 90% of all dogs die with cancer and not from it. The life span of dogs is so short that cancer is not really an issue. Dogs get old and die.

When I was growing up we had many dogs. I loved them and I miss them too. The memories and the love and companionship. I judged those dogs but they never judged me.

But how far should you go to save snoopy ? Are you going to spend thousands or tens of thousands to add another 3 years of picking up poop and filling water dishes to your daily schedule ?

There is just time to cry and let go.

I think it is disordered to take away from the kids education fund or retirement or a trip to Disneyland.

What do you think ? Do you think I am being a jerk or just rational ?

Do you have a personal story or know anyone who has gone over-board trying to add to a dog or other pets short lifespan ?

  • Does anyone tell you the cause of cancer in animals?  On a radio station, an elderly lady phones in the the radio stations and asks the vet, "why does my pooch have tumors?  Vet replies, " Was your pooch neutered or spaded? (sterilized).  There you go!  tumors may not be cancer, but the same thing is common/expected in humans.

  •  :facepalm:I know a woman who had an Egyptian Mau cat who was taken for monthly grooming including teeth whitening, nails clipped and capped.  "Bastet" turned diabetic and had to be injected three times a day.  He had cataract surgery twice.  When he died, the woman had him cremated and his ashes placed in a pyramid shaped urn that sits in a little shrine in her living room!
     :dancing-banana: CRAZY!
St. Francis Xavier threw a Crucifix into the sea, at once calming the waves.  Upon reaching the shore, the Crucifix was returned to him by a crab with a curious cross pattern on its shell.

  • A vet who started practicing in the early 50's said:

"When I first became a vet dogs could  live close to 18-20 years and I never saw cancer or diabetes etc.  They were fed table scraps and whatever they could catch outside.
Now they still eat from the same sources as we do."

What does that say for what will happen to us?

Pretty sure there was no more wrong with Bastet other than his stupid, rich, gullible, idolatrist slave. Poor cat had to suffer her all his life! And no reward in the end.

Our beloved dog has cancer.   We went to the vet.  Who said we had to go to a specialist who wanted $1,700 for testing.  We were shocked.  The office was packed with people paying thousands of dollars for their pets.   Of course I was crying.  My husband was upset.
But that was a racket.   Then they tried to push meds and pain killers too on top of the two hundred dollar 5 min exam. The we got mad.   They treated us like animal a users because we didn't get the tests done.  Then we went to another vet who was honest.  He said that they could amputate but it would not guarantee.   We are not putting our dog through pain. She is fine
    For now.

It is all about money for animals and humans.

Cancer research is big money.   Pills needles big money.

How yogurt with cap and yet asparatame is in ingredients.

    How about cancer prevention ???

Our beloved dog is in God's hands now.
May God bless you and keep you

  • Our neighbors who don't have much were conned into paying $4,000 on credit card for their dog who had tumors to have surgery chemo radiation. The dog died shortly after.

I am sorry about what you are going through, prayers sent.

I recall an episode of some pet hospital series I was watching with a young niece back in the 1990s. The dog got run over or something and they took the dog in and came out and explained to the guy that it was going to cost thousands to save the dog. The guy said that he had kids to feed and could not afford it.

So the receptionist or whoever it was shamed the guy into saving the dog at high cost and taking away from his kids. I sat there thinking the guy should have told her since she was so concerned about the dog to pay out of her own pocket.

To save a pet I would personally set the bill at $1,000 for the initial care expecting to pay maybe another $500 in secondary care or meds. Other than that it is beddy bye time for Snoopy. I am not saying that money is more important, it is just practical and rational and in the long run the right thing to do.
