  • The family "farm" saw a bit of damage as a result of the huge storm that just passed through our area, and is still passing through Texas.

We got a TON of rain, a TON of wind, and a good dose of lightning.

I thought I was watching CNN's coverage of "Hurricane Andrew", but no, I was here in the middle of Texas looking at the closest thing I've ever seen to a hurricane.

I lost one of my plum trees! I'll need to buy another one now, since they aren't the self-pollinating variety. We had two plum trees, but for some reason only one came with a wooden "support". The one with the support survived. The other was blown by the wind so hard it was practically kissing the ground! I guess that was too much for it -- it looks like the trunk snapped midway through, and the tree is just dangling there.

I can't do a good survey of my other crops until morning, but I peeked outside (I couldn't stand the suspense) and it looks like some of my plants are OK, as well as my peach and orange trees. My two "container" variety tomato plants -- which are growing in large pots -- are drooping over quite a bit. I'll have to make sure they get well-drained in the morning.

Our neighbor behind us had a large tree fall in her yard. It's one neighbor's tree, and another neighbor's yard. The tree appears to have been struck by lightning.

We definitely had a lot of flash flooding. I'm glad I wasn't on the road during this one! The rain was coming down so hard, our street looked like a flowing river. As soon as the rain slowed down it subsided, but still...

Our metal swing (2-seater, made for adults) blew over. I think that's happened once before. The sun-shade acts like a sail and tips the whole thing over.

I can't see what other damage happened in my neighborhood, as it's still 2 in the morning.

I'm not looking forward to squeezing in damage control with a normal (full) day of programming work tomorrow *sigh* I kind of wish I had a day off to deal with it...

I guess I'd better (try to) get to bed...I have a long day ahead of me.

  • Wow, you got rain. Can we have some pictures of it. It's been so long I can hardly remember it. Is that when drops of water fall out of the sky? I wonder if I'll ever see it again.

Seriously, sorry to hear about the damage. Hope everything works out. I like plumbs.

  • We got lots of rain and thunder boomers here in KS.  I guess just be glad your roofing didn't go by the board, too.  We've found ours down the road before, but that was a day when the wind was dumping tractor trailer rigs on their sides.

  • What state do you live in Daniel?

I'm in Indiana, and rain was pouring this morning.  Skies are cloudy right now, no lightning though.

The better question would be what country. He's in Australia.
