  • Adultery is "objectively more heinous" than murder?  With murder, you take away not only the rights they have towards their spouse (adultery) but their rights to everything, including their spouse.  You also could be in the position of consigning their souls to hell if they were not in a state of grace at the time, and depriving them of the opportunity to acquire eternal merit.

Adultery is committed within and defiles the body. Murder only separates the body from the soul. Adultery can never be justified in the mind of the transgressor. However, a murderer could genuinely believe that he is doing a pious and holy deed.

Any who die in a state of mortal sin ultimately deserved such a fate. Do you think that the Lord would allow a soul of good will to perish without any chance of contrition? The just have nothing to fear because the Lord knows who are His own.

What makes adultery particularly egregious is the injustice committed against the spouse, and of course your vows to God.  If defilement of the body were the criterion, then sins like fornication and solitary sins against impurity, those too would be more grave than murder ... and subject to the death penalty.

  • Willful murder is one of the 4 sins that cry to heaven for vengeance. I know that adultery is a sin against justice and charity, but it seems murder is worse.

  • Why concern yourself with matters that haven't been given to you to judge?

You're not exactly the King of Byzantium, with the authority to mete out punishment.
    2 Corinthians 4:3-4

And if our gospel be also hid, it is hid to them that are lost, In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of unbelievers, that the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not shine unto them.
