  • My grandfather was born during the reign of St Pius X... My mind is beggared by the thought that this great, holy pontiff reigned during the lives of people I personally knew and conversed with... Just a short time ago in the life of the Church, really...

    And now we have this:

    http://photoblog.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/08/29/20243076-pope-francis-poses-for-a-selfie-at-the-vatican?lite

By David R Arnott, NBC News

Pope Francis obligingly posed for a "selfie" with a group of young people visiting the Vatican on Wednesday.

The pope is following in the footsteps of stars like Rihanna, Madonna and Justin Bieber in climbing aboard the "selfie" bandwagon, though as of Thursday he had not posted the photo to his offical Twitter page.

The "selfie" phenomenon was recognized by an authority of another kind this week, as the word was added to the online cousin of the oh-so traditional Oxford English Dictionary.

  •  :confused1:What is meant by "selfie"?  Selfish?  People actually go on-line to see others brag on themselves?  These minds are beyond mush.  They've solidified!
St. Francis Xavier threw a Crucifix into the sea, at once calming the waves.  Upon reaching the shore, the Crucifix was returned to him by a crab with a curious cross pattern on its shell.

  • What is meant by "papal"?

I can't believe the girl with the Guess shirt has the nicest pectoral cross. But in June, they were turning people away who showed that much arm. Guess that modesty thing got flushed down the crapper along with the FFI. In a matter of month. (Singular.)

Look carefully; she's wearing her Rosary, which is sacrilegious.

No way! (My eyes are bad this week; waiting for new prescription). I just zoomed it and still can't tell except, yep, the shape is definitely Rosary. (And what I'd thought was a scarf looks more like a man's necktie when it's zoomed up.)

No way they're letting her wear the Rosary in St. Peter's.

  •  :dancing-banana:Really?  I was afraid to study the picture!  Why do novus ordo Catholics ape the world when they do a really bad job of it?  If I want to see REAL "Goth" fashion, I can go, right now, three blocks to a Goth club where the Catholic Goth-girl's outfit would be scorned.  My point is, if you're going to be worldly, be worldly!  If you want to be Catholic, lose the worldly clothes.  My guess is that this poor girl hasn't the slightest idea of what is Catholicism.  Her mind is misformed so that if she does become Catholic, it is a miracle of grace---actually, the only way ANY of us is Catholic.
