  • The idea of a man made super disease being unleashed scares me more than a nuke being dropped.

  • How can we even know if this is true, and not fear-mongering?

    I agree.

Nukes don't spread to every nook and cranny of civilization. They only affect the city they are dropped on, and a few dozen miles in any direction (there's fallout, etc.)

Fallout you can easily defend against, by building a door-covered trench shelter in your backyard (2 strong men could dig one in 36 hours).

For some reason, nukes don't scare me as much as pestilence and famine.

As always, the answer is "we can't know for sure".

    But we can prepare.

Survivalists have a saying -- "better a year early than a day late". And how true is that saying!

Your extra medical supplies, canned goods, water, etc. can sit there a few months or years -- but you can't buy them ONE DAY LATE because they won't be there for the having -- everyone will want them then. Demand will overwhelm our fragile supply lines.

  • I heard on the radio that an Indonisian village got wiped out by what they think is bird-flu. Aproximatly 150 people died.

I dont think the bird-flu that has been going around is such a threat, since it's only in rare cases that it has infected humans, but whose to say that the gov. hasent gotten a hold of it and made a super strain of the virus and is testing it on natives in 3rd world countries?
