  • My husband is a sedevacantist and will no longer attend ANY mass celebrated by a VII priest (even the Latin mass).

I am worried that I am sinning by not going to the NO mass (which is my only option for a couple of weeks) because I am not fulfilling my Sunday obligation.  In a couple of weeks the TLM starts up in my area on a weekly basis, but again, the priest is a Vatican II priest.

I have no other options.  No SSPX.  Nothing.

    What do I do?
For there shall arise false Christs and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders, insomuch as to deceive (if possible) even the elect. (Matthew 24:24)

  • I sent you a PM

Do you have PM priveleges yet?
"Be kind; do not seek the malicious satisfaction of having discovered an additional enemy to the Church... And, above all, be scrupulously truthful. To all, friends and foes alike, give that serious attention which does not misrepresent any opinion, does not distort any statement, does not mutilate any quotation. We need not fear to serve the cause of Christ less efficiently by putting on His spirit". (Vermeersch, 1913).

  • Thank you.  I will read it as soon as I can (tomorrow I think)!

Anyone else who prefers to answer via PM, that's cool too.

    TIA!

  • Although to the question in your thread re: the Novus Ordo.  You don't sin by not attending a Catholic mass if none is available.  The NO is not a Catholic mass, you can't possibly sin by not attending it.

You can still keep the Lord's Day if the sacraments aren't available to you.  Pray the Office, pray the rosary, read out of your missal.  There's TONS to do.

  • If I was in your position I would stay home because I have doubts about the validity of Novus Ordo priests, so I avoid the indult. I would never go to a Novus Ordo Mass except for maybe a wedding or funeral of a relative.

I am very much like your husband in that I no longer attend NO masses, diocesan TLMs, nothing in conciliar churches, and I have serious doubts about the status of V-II priests.  I am very blessed to live 20 mins from an independent traditional chapel.  I know not everyone is that fortunate.

I travel a lot to though and miss Mass a lot because of my beliefs.  My priest explains that I can't attend an NO mass because it is a sacrilege to do so, nor even a diocesan TLM because the priests also participates in sacrilegious masses.

In traveling, I am pretty much stuck if there isn't an SSPX (or of course Resistance) chapel available because I have concerns about the validity of independent priests with whom I am not familiar.

I know people travel as much as 2 hrs or maybe more to Mass.  Is there no SSPX/Resistance or an independent chapel that you may investigate validating even in an expanded area?  My local chapel usually doesn't have Holy Day Masses.  So I drive 2 hrs myself when I can.

Are you familiar with sources for locating SSPX and independent chapels?

  • Prior to Vatican II, when a Catholic was traveling around, most of the time there was always a Mass one could attend, and no one ever doubted the validity of the Mass.  However, if a Catholic was in an area where there was NOT a Catholic church nearby, you would never even consider going to the nearby Protestant service to fulfill your obligation, would you?

Which is why you should not feel guilty about not going to the novus ordo.  Did you know that even some Protestant churches say the novus ordo, because they are the ones who composed it.
    Please pray for my soul.

If you are referring to something like the TLM directory on traditio's website, I have checked that resource and there are none in my area.

That is the most comprehensive directory that I am aware of.  I have an iPhone app called TLM(US).  But I think it only shows diocesan & SSPX.

  • 2Vermont, just because your husband suddenly has a conviction, doesn't automatically give you a conscience problem. Ultimately, you need to follow your own conscience. The Church teaches that conscience is an ordinance of reason, so you can't say, "What if my husband is right, then I might be sinning". That is an unreasonable, hypothetical fear. Perhaps you can ask your husband to give his reasons, and if you find them reasonable, you can have the same conscience.

To have doubt, you need at least one good positive reason to doubt. You cannot merely base it on "what if" (which is hypothetical).

There are solid principles of reason the Church gives us: The Church says that "a doubtful pope is no pope", "a doubtful sacrament is no sacrament", and that "a doubtful priest is no priest". These don't mean necessarily that they are not real, but that for PRACTICAL purposes you are free and obliged before God to consider them invalid because of the doubt.

If one has no doubt about a pope being valid, one must believe the Novus Ordo and priesthood are valid and good, and act upon it.

I, personally, doubt the Novus Ordo and their priesthood, and will have nothing to do with them....as well I reject the papal claimants who promote Vatican II and ecuмenism.

I'm not a sedevacantist but I have doubts about this pope, and all the post-V2 popes. That's why I'm not following their modernist teachings.

And I have hard evidence that the Novus Ordo Mass (and accompanying religion) is noxious to the Faith. I have 43 years of hard data.

I'm not certain the post-V2 popes are valid, nor am I certain they're invalid. So I will just keep the Faith (all I can do, really) while God sorts out this Crisis.

Judging the Pope is "above my pay grade".

I see no reason to declare the See vacant with all the full weight of Matthew's insight, knowledge and authority.
