  • Call him “Jorge”

“José María del Corral, director of the ‘School of Neighbors’ educational program in Buenos Aires was one of the Pope’s special guests at his Inaugural Mass…. When Corral ‘bumped into’ the Pope in the elevator, he asked, ‘How should I refer to you now?” The Pope answered, ‘Call me Jorge, what else?'”

  • We should also obey Joe. Since Joe was the detritus… I mean peritus responsible for the "subsists in" of LG§8, we should be sure to note that the two living "popes" only "subsist in" the Chair of Peter.

Not sure I agree.  Wojtyla was far more dangerous because he disguised his heresy, and his outward projection of piety actually helped many conservative types imbibe the poisons of religious indifferentism.  Jorge is actually doing a great service to the Church by exposing the Vatican II apostasy.

You make a good point… and also Wojtyla played sports with women.

It's a joke referring to the HFA sportanist thread.

  • Personally, I typically refer to popes (even post-V2 ones) by their papal names out of respect for the office.  I have not really thought about why people use other names, just assuming that this was a characteristic of sedes.  But I see there is a case for people doing this from an R&R perspective too.

Thanks for explaining the background, Mark.

I believe that this is precisely the point of the thread.  People often refer to sedevacantists as disrespectful for using familiar names for the V2 papal claimants, but the defense here (entirely tongue-in-cheek) is that we're merely obeying the Pope's wishes when calling him Jorge.

sedevacantist:  "Jorge did this the other day..."
    sedeplenist:  "Hey, that's disrespectful."
sedevacantist:  "Oh, no, I'm just doing what he asked ... out of obedience."

How is it disrespectful for people who do not think a man is a pope to refrain from using a papal title for him?  It follows logically from their assumptions.

I don't really get on Sedevacantists for this ,but as someone who's closer to the R + R camp (perhaps you'd say not strictly) I am not really comfortable doing this.  I'll not say I've never done it, especially out of frustration, but I do *believe* I ought to be respectful.

And the fact that Francis doesn't want his office to be respected, doesn't really make me feel justified in not respecting it.

I'm inclined to think Sede-doubtists and Sedeprivationists should refer to the man as "Pope Francis" though, unless their doubt like MAJORLY outweighs their consideration, if that makes sense.
