  • It's okay, Marsha. Francis said something that sounded "Catholic" last week, so all's right with the world. Brick by brick, right?
"This principle is most certain: The non-Christian cannot in any way be Pope. The reason for this is that he cannot be head of what he is not a member. Now, he who is not a Christian is not a member of the Church, and a manifest heretic is not a Christian, as is clearly taught by St. Cyprian, St. Athanasius, St. Augustine, St. Jerome, and others. Therefore, the manifest heretic cannot be Pope." -- St. Robert Bellarmine

Of course, Cardinal Dolan also said something that sounded Catholic when he condemned a mandate that he do what he was already doing.

But that's what these Conciliar bishops usually do.  They often talk and say a few things that make people think that they are finally returning to the Faith but they are almost always discovered to be doing what they condemn.

But they only occasionally sound Catholic.  And you know every time they do because it always makes the news!

  • I like how they're doing it "under protest."

This is going to be the new thing.  Catholics doing anti-Catholic things, under the pretense of performing those acts "under protest."

    What a bunch of posers.
"Be kind; do not seek the malicious satisfaction of having discovered an additional enemy to the Church... And, above all, be scrupulously truthful. To all, friends and foes alike, give that serious attention which does not misrepresent any opinion, does not distort any statement, does not mutilate any quotation. We need not fear to serve the cause of Christ less efficiently by putting on His spirit". (Vermeersch, 1913).

It's the same as the "Catholic" pols who say regarding abortion, "I'm personally opposed, BUT..."

"But because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold, not hot, I will begin to vomit thee out of My mouth."
    --Apocalypse 3:16

Someone over at SD called him "Cardinal Cheesehead." It's a close call for me; I like both names.

  • Not surprised.

A good one third of the princes of the church need to give there collective heads a shake.

  • Wonder how they're gonna explain this away on FE or CAF?
Probably attack both camps of the SSPX.

  • Working for the Archdiocese of New York is no different than working for a secular employer.  My employer is not Catholic, so contraception is paid for, but presently, not abortion.  This will change come ObamaCare.  The program assigns everyone a PCP, a primary care physician.  There is no choice to use another doctor, and since abortions are performed at the attached city-funded clinic, it is worthless to me.  I've never seen "my" doctor.  If I get sick enough to warrant a doctor's care, I go to a naturopath and pay out-of-pocket.  I imagine serious Catholics who work for the NY Diocese are forced into similar situations.  Thank God I have no serious medical issues, at least none I know of.  I cannot afford recommended routine tests, check-ups, so I do without.  Many more Catholics will find themselves essentially uninsured.  It is my hope to form an unofficial cooperative such as the Old Order Amish have done for decades in case of catastrophic medical expense.
St. Francis Xavier threw a Crucifix into the sea, at once calming the waves.  Upon reaching the shore, the Crucifix was returned to him by a crab with a curious cross pattern on its shell.
