  • I was just reading articles on the internet about the Great Monarch, and along with quotes from the writings of Saints there were quotes from the writings of Nostradamus. As far as I could tell from everything else the site was Traditionalist Catholic (perhaps Sedevacantist though), but I've always made a point of avoiding Nostradamus' works like a plague as to my understanding he was an occultist. Is he, and are we supposed to avoid his works?

  • IMO, Nostradamus is fine.  If you want the take of someone who knew a lot about prophecy, the Church's teachings, and Nostradamus, read Yves Dupont's intro to his own discussion of Nostradamus' predictions about our own times.  It may be found in the book I posted in the Library.

  • Nostradamus was a sorcerer, but the devil did give him insights as to what he was planning to do in the future (like the French Revolution for example). Perhaps even God allowed him to see a few things that the devil couldn't.

  • Nostradamus got his information through looking into a bowl of water.

Genuine seers don't have to do that kind of thing.

He used other methods of divination, but that's the form he's most known for.

  • Can anyone provide reliable sources for these stories about Nostradamus?  I find it hard to believe that a man as pious and erudite as Dupont knew less about Nostradamus' actual history than some here...

You don't have to be pro-zionist to think that Muslims were (are?) "boogeymen".

I dont think he was ignorant about Nostradamus at all. I think he was merely bringing to attention some of the more notable pagan prophecies that complement the Divine revelations (of which there are many with regards to the end times). Citing a pagan (or satanic) seer in relation to Catholic prophecies is not a sin.

  • I don't know why people are inpressed by Nostradamus's predictions. I  myself are more impressed by the statement of a young girl called Mary 2,000 years ago who prophesized that all generations shall call me blessed. Here we are right now fulfilling that prophecy literally at every hour of every day by reciting the rosary somewhere in the world and praying just as Mary predicted that people would do in every generation by saying Blessed art thou among woman during their rosary. Now that's a prophecy with no if's and's or but's!!!

  • I find that the questionable nature of Nostradamus' predictions--the way they are vague, cryptic, and indiscernable, almost of no use to anyone in the present--these things show the murky manner and odd origin of his prophetic conclusions.

God is clear.  God gives promises.  His light pierces the cloudy fog that Nostradamus' prophecies thrive in.  Holy prophecies are clear as day, and they come true.

Nostradamus is fun and all.  His red comet prophecies are startling.  Perhaps there's truth in his predictions.  But he's not too reliable.  If you read him, take him with a grain of salt!

As for Dupont: I, too, would like to know more about why he made the choice of including Nostradamus in his book.

The book is in the Library.  I believe Dupont gives a short spiel to introduce the chapter of N's prophecies.  It is in the latter half of the short book.

  • i was reading about dupont on some thread on fisheaters and one of the members said that dupont took liberties with some of the quotes. he said that some of the quotes were made up of things said on separate occasions and about different things, but made to appear as if they were written down that way.

i have lost track of the thread over there and will have to look for it.
