If you read, visit, or post on CathInfo and you are in a foreign country WHICH DOESN'T USE ENGLISH AS THE PRIMARY LANGUAGE, please post in this thread.

I would recommend sending me a quick e-mail (matthew at cathinfo.com) with your IP address, or the RANGE of addresses your Internet service provider gives you, if it changes a lot.

Long story short, I don't want to block you from CathInfo by mistake! That's not my goal.

For example, I know we have one long-time member from Singapore. But at the moment Singapore is the #3 country hitting CathInfo. Obviously there's not THAT much legitimate interest in CathInfo from a non-Catholic country!

So as I'm blocking IP addresses, I'd like to try to avoid my legitimate members.

If you are in the following countries, you don't have to worry. I consider them part of the United States :)

Canada, Mexico, Brazil, England/United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, India, and the Philippines.

Basically if your country is CATHOLIC, has a STRONG CATHOLIC PRESENCE, or at least ESTABLISHED TRAD CATHOLIC MISSIONS and might have legitimate CathInfo members/visitors, you don't have to worry.

But countries like Russia, China, Vietnam, Ukraine, Pakistan, United Arab Emirates, Bangladesh, etc. I would happily block the entire country and lose nothing.

I thought there was an SSPX presence in Ukraine?  Or was it Belarus?  One of the former lands of the USSR has an SSPX chapel.  You might not want to block them.

Well, I don't think there's much Trad going on there. And this is an almost exclusively Roman-rite forum.

And although the SSPX might have outposts in certain missionary countries, do they speak English?

The SSPX did have some sort of Greek Rite section, although it seemed to cleave to some unwise old time efforts at Latinising this noble Rite. Ukrainian Greek Rite Catholicism is surely good solid Tradition. Now if malicious atttacks are coming from the Ukraine, perhaps sacrifices have to be made. The SSPX have a presence in Nigeria which is English speaking, at least officially.

I was responding to this, Matthew:

You said that Catholic countries, or those with a strong Catholic presence, needen't worry ... but then listed Ukraine as a counter-example.

  • Well, you all might be right (SSPX presences, Catholicism in various countries, etc.)

But I still know that in 10 years, we haven't had a single Russian or Chinese national on CathInfo.

I know how many AMERICANS never visit CathInfo. How much more a couple dozen Trad Russians?

We've had some very distinctly "hyphenated" Americans here, but usually they were born in, or at least grew up in, America. The only real foreigners we've had here are from the countries I listed -- usually English speaking, plus those countries where the SSPX has not just a presence, but a HEAVY presence.
