  • Isn't it strange how some men go full-on Nero (a.k.a. tyrant) if they are given power over a small Homeowners Association, or an online forum or Facebook group with 50 - 250 members (many of whom are inactive members)...

While other men have the nobility of soul to be able to rule a large business with thousands of employees -- or even a small country -- with graciousness, wisdom, mercy, and magnanimity?

Some men are petty (pusillanimous, "small souled") while others are noble and magnanimous ("large souled"). You can really tell the difference by giving ANY MEASURE OF POWER to both. What a difference!

This applies to priests as well. Some act like tyrants, pushing their opinions and desires on all, while others consider themselves humble employees of God and use their position, influence ("power") to do a lot of good for souls.

  • In my experience it is a very tiny minority of men that are noble as you describe, I'd say no more than 5%. The failure comes from man's fallen nature.

In my experience very few men learn from their experiences and change.

How many men would jump in front of a bullet for another? Those are the same ones that would be noble as you describe. Scarcely anyone.

Nobility as you describe can be taught to children, teach your children. I did. Also teach them that their bad experiences are a lesson to improve themselves, to learn from them and move on to be better than before.

The greatest ever home run hitter was Babe Ruth. Few people know who was the man that struck out the most.  It was Babe Ruth. (If you shy away from bad experiences you will make less errors, but you also won't be very successful)
