Girls no longer will be allowed as altar servers during Mass at the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix, SS. Simon and Jude.

The Rev. John Lankeit, rector of the cathedral, said he made the decision in hopes of promoting the priesthood for males and other religious vocations, such as becoming a nun, for females.

Made up primarily of fifth- through eighth-graders the altar-server corps in American churches has included girls since 1983 in many places. Girls and boys regularly serve together at churches throughout the Phoenix Catholic Diocese.

Must maintain the subservient roles for all women in the church.

The NO parish I grew up in didn't allow altar girls until 1992 (when there was a change of priests). It took several years after that before there was even a girl interested in asking to be an altar server... probably around '96.

You're attempting sarcasm - not "cynicism."

Men and women do have respective places - that's what the Church has always taught and practiced.

You do not accept the Traditions of the Church if you think it's acceptable for your daughter to distribute Holy Communion (a sacrilege) or serve at the altar (also sacrilegious, but not to the same degree)

No, sir or madame, you do not. If you allow and encourage your daughter to serve on the altar and "distribute" the Body, Soul, and Divinity of Our Lord, you are merely following concessions that certain men made to accommodate progressivists and modernists.

You are merely a "conservative" Novus Ordo Catholic. And you haven't given much thought at all about why the TEACHING of the Church forbids women at the altar and forbids, under normal circuмstances, a lay person of either stripe, from distributing the Eucharist.

Well I cant say I agree with that approach AB. I think I know where you're coming from. But maybe we could have a little more charity when dealing with those who don't fully understand the faith; after all, God has chosen to have charity with us, in that we are holding to the teachings of the Church, I'm sure he would like us to do the same for them.

So lets not be too hasty with :heretic: before we do a little more
