    After many rumors that the church of Sainte-Jeanne-d’Arc in Sherbrooke would become a cinema, a circus or a mosque, the building is going to be restored to its original vocation: Catholic worship with the traditional Latin Mass.
     
    The Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX) District of Canada bought the church for 550,000 Canadian dollars, reported La Tribune de Sherbrooke in its December 12, 2017 issue. The faithful have been in possession of the building since November, but the sale was only confirmed on December 8, feast of the Immaculate Conception.
    “Ever since the arrival of the Mass in French,” explains Fr. Daniel Couture, the district superior, “the churches have been emptying. But we celebrate Mass in Latin and buy the churches back. There is a growing interest in traditional, more demanding values.”
    Some work is needed, but the church seems to be in good condition. Jokes Fr. Couture:

    It is in surprising condition. There will be work to do for sure. And we will try to rent out the basement to community organizations with values similar to our own. It’s not going to be a rock-n-roll bar!

    • Good deal. This is a good example of how you spend money wisely.

    You could buy well over two hundred churches like this for the amount the SSPX contributors are going to be squeezed to pay for the new seminary. The new SSPX seminary is an example of how to waste money unwisely, two hundred++ fold!
