"I'm burning, I'm burning!" Panahi recalled her saying, her final words.

"Angel of freedom"? "Martyr" for freedom?

    Please.

More like just another lost soul who died outside the Catholic Church, facing the judgment of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Of course, we cannot know with certainty. However, those last words are a chilling testimony.

  • At the moment of the death, Satan appears before us and multitudes of devils surround the dying soul and leads it to despair. What great terror will it be for that soul to behold Jesus Christ, whom she despised during life.

    Indeed, DeMaistre, indeed.

When I read that quote today, I was really chilled. It's as if we are hearing the actual lament of a soul that has just been condemned to hell.  Again, we don't know for sure, but it seems like a very likely possibility.

One thing's for sure: it gives the lie to all the silly talk of "angel" and "martyr" that the popular press keeps feeding us.

  • Its technically impossible, since she wasn't dead yet. But the saints have said often that they would rather be thrown into a furnace that look at a demon. Her death was horrid really, the blood flowing everywhere. Oh how death puts an end to all things...
