  • Do you folks confront atheists and critics of the Church in public on a daily basis?

  • It's the other way around for me, actually. At my job I am confronted about my Catholic faith in some way, shape or form most days. It's usually some snide remark, a passive aggressive statement, etc. I don't do the confronting unless something said is overly offensive and oppressive.

I'm quitting my job soon, though, and depriving them of their teasing they enjoy so much. :)

Actually, that's what I meant, Jen.  I should have asked: "Are you confronted by atheists in daily life?"

Yeah, I'm tired of snide remarks and passive agressive statements.

Is your quitting related to this issue at all?

  • Before I retired, I owned a business that employed about twenty people.  I had several flavors of Protestants, one Jєω, one Unitarian, and several people who were religiously indifferent as well as Catholics.  I don't think anyone would have used the term atheist, but the Unitarian and some of the indifferent were agnostics.  I would not tolerate harassment of any kind against anyone.  None of the non-believers ever tried to make in an issue.  The lunch room conversation often turned to religion, but it was generally pleasant.  I expected my employees to work when they were at work, not engage in polemics.  It seems to me that this should be the expectation in any secular workplace.

This particular issue is one of many reasons I am quitting. Other reasons are:

Since becoming more keen to the evils of feminism, I have shifted my outlook on what kind of work would be appropriate for me, given my current state in life. At my current place of employment I was a manager and stepped down due to my scruples with supervising men twice my age with familys to feed. One of those men actually ended up getting promoted to my position upon me stepping down. Yay! I also had issues with many injustices against employees that I refused to enforce. That was about 6 months ago. But even after stepping down, I still didn't feel right and began questioning wether it was right for me to be in the workforce. I felt as though I was feeding the beast called feminism, yet I had to support myself somehow. Wasn't sure what to do for awhile. Sought counsel from my priest, didn't find any clarification so I just prayed very persistently to God that if I needed to get out of the secular workforce, he would provide me a way to do it. Over the past few months it became clearer and clearer to me that I needed to remove myself as much as possible from the typical workforce. Being exposed to rampant feminism, vulgarity, temptations and the like was an everyday occurrence, and it was bad for my soul. Nothing about my job encouraged femininity, and I wasn't ok with that.

Long story short, after a couple years of resisting (for various reasons... some legitimate, some not), I decided to finally move back to my hometown to be with my parents. They've recently been endeavoring a hobby farm, and I am jumping on board with that. They both work, so I'll be doing a lot of the business. Selling fresh milk (kansas is one of the few places allowed to sell milk) and things made from milk such as soap, lotion, cheese, etc. I'll also be raising some livestock specifically for the fiber to spin. There's a good market for all things natural right now. With good marketing and hardwork, I think I could be successful. I've done these types of things my whole life, just haven't tried to make money with it. I'll also be teaching piano and voice lessons. The best part is, all of this can be done from home. To start off, I'll probably have to get a very part time job until things get rolling. I have several options at this point, and all are with very small family type businesses.

That was a windy response to a small question. I'm not the most concise person...

  • Jen, that is just wonderful. Congrats and good luck to you.

Yay for feminine jobs! :) What a blessing to see the Lord open doors to those who seek them through prayer.

That wasn't too much detail. I think it was just right. And a beautiful story. Thank you.

As for non-believers, I have a hard time with them. I lack patience. I get a lot
of plus votes for talking to others about it, though.

Just today a friend asked me how do you respond to a Protestant who says that
Jesus had other siblings, so Our Lady had more children? We got past the
"brethren" thing. I told him the best refutation I've heard of this canard is that
on the Cross, Our Lord gave his mother to John, who nobody says is his "brother,"
literally. Now, for a Jєω to give his own mother over to the care of someone who
is not immediate family when there are brothers surviving, would be a very bad
    move. Etc. He appreciated that.
