Marcellus Shale
is an underground geological structure that lies under northern New York, part
of Canada by the Great Lakes, Pennsylvania and nearby states.
This shale contains enough natural gas to supply the USA all its gas needs for
14 years.

Fracking is a process that has been developed to get the gas out of such
otherwise inaccessible areas.  It involves drilling 1,000 feet deep and then
turning the well horizontally for some distance, then perforating the well casing
with holes so that liquid can be injected into the surrounding shale.

"Fracking" comes from "Hydraulic Fracturing," a new drilling technology, in which
the casing of the well is perforated with explosive charges, to allow fluids (liquid
or gas) to pass out of the well bore into the surrounding earth, or out of the earth
into the well bore so it can be drawn out or "mined."

There has been a dramatic increase in injuries from the drilling process alone,
but the human health aspect threatens to raise the bar on consequential injury.

This new technology is growing in popularity in the USA and is attracting a lot
of attention worldwide.  Currently the northeast USA is in its 3rd year of a
30 year plan to drill thousands of such wells.  Fracking is on the way to Europe
and Asia, Africa, South America and Oceania.  New York has a temporary ban
on fracking, but does not prohibit the dumping of toxic wastes on NY lands
when the waste was a product of fracking in nearby states.  Gas companies
have been promoting an information war that includes getting politicians to put
a good face on the whole process and consequences. The company that
pioneered fracking is Halliburton.

Simply put, fracking is a big money maker.  And those who would put profits
above everything are real excited about it.  

The liquid used in fracking that is injected into the earth through these giant
hypodermic syringes (oil wells) is largely water, but is also a cocktail of
chemicals, many of which are not safe for human consumption, including but
not limited to:

Formaldehyde
Glutaraldehyde
Boric Acid
Ethane-1,2-diol (Ethelyne Glycol)
Methanol
Monoethanolamine
Dazomet
Acetic Anhydride
Isopropanol
Propargyl Alcohol (Prop-2-yn-1-01)
5-chloro-2-methyl-4isothiazotin-3-one
DIESEL
Sodium Bicarbonate (NaHCO3)


The Marcellus Shale also contains radium 226, and the extracted materials have
this radium in concentrations 200 times more than the safe limits allow.
