I was outside today when our (adopted, stray) cat came up to me with a small (dead) rabbit dangling from her mouth.
She plopped it down, and waited for my input.
I just watched her -- in fact I called the kids outside. After she cleared it with me, she went back to it and started sniffing around its head (and I thought, "oh boy, here goes...")
Sure enough, she dug in. She started with the head -- CRUNCH CRUNCH and worked away at that little critter. She was sticking her head inside it once the head was gone, and I thought she was going to hollow it out.
She ended up eating EVERYTHING except a small pile of dark green goo -- possibly the stomach contents, or maybe an organ she didn't like. I did see her sniffing it and rejecting it.
But there's nothing else left of that entire rabbit! She must have been hungry.
I guess that's why we don't have as many rabbits on our acreage these days -- all the cats are getting them. I haven't seen a mouse in a long time. And we live in what's essentially a big field, so I know there used to be mice.
